If Kelsier decided Elend needed to die,  I don't know if anything would be able to stop it.  He executed a plan that while it required his death,  killed a god and an empire.  Pretty sure what Kelsier wants to die,  dies.

I'm not sure if that actually counts in his favour. Sure he was pretty good at playing up his own ego and making everyone love him but apart from that, his plan was absolutely terrible. Really, the only reason the Final Empire didn't end with everyone dead was because of divine intervention that no one predicted. Ultimately the only role Kelsier played in the fall of the empire that actually mattered for the result was motivating Vin to kill the Lord Ruler and if we judge by that then Elend motivating her to kill Ruin would take the cake.
