Levian
So I just started reading Allow of Law today, and completely unexpectedly came across Wax stating that people wear "aluminum linings" under their hats, to protect against having their emotions tampered with. I couldn't help but burst out laughing that the people of Scadrial wear tinfoil hats for essentially the same reason our crazies do. Except they have a legitimate reason for doing so, and it is the "city's elite" who commonly do it, as opposed to the popular image of our tinfoil hat wearers
Shardlet he/him
Yeah, Brandon did this unintentionally and made the connection after the fact. Source A. I would say that it is viable that someone could figure it out, but it would be a very difficult thing to train, and it is not a common Coppercloud- A common Coppercloud isn’t going to be able to be doing it, and almost no Mistborn will ever be capable of doing it, they just don’t focus on that metal enough to learn it. Of course, there aren’t Mistborn around anymore .So it is a possible power, it is plausible, but it is not the standard. Perhaps I will allow it to become the standard eventually, but it’s not right now. It would be much easier to wear a tinfoil hat. (laughter)Aluminum, aluminum. Which does work. Q. Which I did catch was very entertaining to see like that.A. I built aluminum to do all sorts of funky things to all the powers, and I actually hadn’t made the connection of tinfoil hats until after I’d built it in, and I was writing it in Alloy of Law, years after I built it in, saying “Wait a minute! I just put tinfoil hats in the book!” (laughter) So I actually built that without thinking that there would be a joke to that.
11thorderknight
Yeah, I noticed that on my first read-through and thought it was hilarious. I thought Brandon did it on purpose though - the fact that it's accidental definitely adds another layer to the joke!
Edgedancer he/him
Now I can´t stop but imagine important politican mettings heald by conspiratontheorists wearing tinfoil hats so the secret "Brass Leagion" can´t manipulate them. Sadly, I doubt that Aluminium can interfer with Duralumin/Connecter Ferrings, afterall they store/tap their own atribute. So magical maipulation of politics is still possible. Fear the "Duralumin Leagion".
Oudeis he/him
Fortunately, if I understand feruchemical duralumin right, it's far less subtle than brass. When tapping it, it doesn't make people like you, it just makes people think of you. If I already like you, it makes me like you more. If I disagree with you, it makes me disagree even stronger. If I'm ambivalent, I become torn. Storing might be a worse problem. A Connector could store so hard you wouldn't even realize he's in the room with you, in theory, although doing so would make him temporarily have an almost autistic inability to accept the existence of other people. The advent of motion sensing technology that picks up any moving object, no matter how little people care about it, would be their nemesis. Claincy he/him
Actually Darnam, from the coppermind (with its info from the alloy of law ars arcanum.) A duralumin Ferring is known as a Connector. Duralumin is used to store Spirtual connection. While filling a duraluminmind, other people's awareness and friendship of the Feruchemist will be reduced. Tapping the metalmind will allow the user to form trust relationships with others much faster. So duralumin does make people like/dislike you in addition to the awareness aspect. I'm moderately certain it works both ways though, tapping it makes others like you a lot but also gives you an equal degree of empathy with others. (Possible that that last bit is MAG only, but I think it makes sense that way.)
