Mailliw73 he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) Alright, the additional traits were dropped. I'll look into the digital MAG. Is the Terris one worth it? Edited October 12, 2015 by Mailliw73
Haelbarde he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Alright, the additional traits were dropped. I'll look into the digital MAG. Is the Terris one worth it? As far as playing the game is concerned? Unless you're a Terrisman, or your campaign is set in that Dominance, it's not going to be that useful. However it's got a lot of information about how their society works and such like. I purchased the PDF's to use as a reference for the MBI, and the Terris suplement was great for when I was writing a Terrisman Steward.
Claincy he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) -snip- Just a few quick comments. -You accidentally wrote brass instead of bronze under powers -It's probably worth adding "(3 charges)" after your misting vial in your props, just as a reminder. -Your drive is really long. It makes sense, but it's generally more convenient to have all your traits as 1-2 words and to keep the longer descriptions about why to your backstory. I'd suggest chopping it back to "Protect Sister", "Family", or "Wealth". Drive is ideally the one thing or concept that keeps your character going when everything seems hopeless, the key thing that drives them to be part of the crew. -Your tragedy is pretty clear but you could be slightly more specific than just "Viva la resistance". Your focus could be on expanding the resistance, raising an army that could do some serious harm, finding a safe haven for the resistance, striking a major blow against the Empire or the Steel Ministry, ensuring the resistance's continued survival or anything else like that. It just gives Mckeedee a little more in the way of inspiration and ideas when planning the campaign, and should help you define your character more Just some suggestions, ignore them if you don't like them Edit: As far as playing the game is concerned? It's certainly not a bad read and has some interesting bits, but unless the campaign is going to be particularly Terris focused it's not really necessary. Unodus he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 -snip- Thanks, I've edited my sheet accordingly :3
Herowannabe he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Thanks to everyone who answered the questions posed to me. Re: Terris supplement and other supplements: Personally, I would start with just the core MAG book and give it a whirl before looking at any of the other supplements. If you find yourself wanting to start a campaign- or getting more info- dealing with Terris society or during the Alloy of Law era or etc, then you can pick them up. They're quite good for what they are, but they do tend to be, how shall I say... Less canonically accurate than the MAG itself.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Been thinking about it, and I can barely keep up with Oregon. I'm not going to be participating in this. Sorry Edge and others.
Mckeedee123 he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Alright. Well, in that case, I suppose our characters are mostly created. Does somebody want to pick a crew concept and starting location?
Unodus he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Well, personally, the Eastern Dominance sounds the most interesting to me- specifically if that's the place with the most military presence. From a rebel point of view, that's the kind of area you'd want to strike against to loosen TLRs grip on the empire. The coppermind makes the burnlands sound intriguing from a new perspective outside of the series- Untamed Koloss, Wasted men, strange technology, etc- a crew on the outskirts of the eastern dominance could work. I'm sure there's tons of different schemes we could pull off- whether it be stealing hordes of treasure from under the noses of bandit kings, or sparking an uprising against the Eastern Nobility (I have no idea how the MAG narrative actually works, but those sound like cool starting ideas). Anyone else interested in that? Just a suggestion.
Mckeedee123 he/him Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Yeah, that definitely does sound fun. Anyone else thinking of something different?
Kadrok she/her Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 (edited) How are you running dice rolls by the way? Also, not to steal traffic from 17S, but there is a site set up for forum based MAG gaming if you're interested in using it, including dice rolling within the forums. I play there, as does Hero, Kurk, Claincy and tecslicer (he founded it). I've been wrestling with whether to mention it, as I didn't want to come off as pushy (or be seen as stealing from 17S). Anyway, it's an option if you're interested. As for starting the game... I am tempted to join in, if you'll have me. If you're looking at being rebels, I have a few ideas. It's a pity you already have a Lurcher, since that's my favourite power. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll roll another Feruchemist? EDIT: It's a shame the Skaa supplement isn't out yet since I'm betting they'll release networks like the Skaa rebellion. Soon... Edited October 13, 2015 by Kadrok
Mailliw73 he/him Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I just bought the MAG, once Hero mentioned the art and special content, I had to buy it. I'll read through it after Shadows of Self, but I just skimmed the art and wow, I'm glad I got this. Unodus, I'm cool with that. I'm fine with whatever really. Kadrok, sorry to steal the Lurcher. I based most of Wilor off of my first MBI character of the same name and I've found Iron an interesting one to work with. 2

No, I'm not particularly competitive about forum traffic or anything. It's just that the only place that played this game online that I knew of was Mistborn: The Inquisition, which I'm pretty sure focuses specifically on the Roleplaying elements. Mailliw73 he/him Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 MBI doesn't use the MAG; it's basically a very structured version of the Oregon RP.
Kadrok she/her Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Just me rolling at home. Oh. Really? I had no idea. No, I'm not particularly competitive about forum traffic or anything. It's just that the only place that played this game online that I knew of was Mistborn: The Inquisition, which I'm pretty sure focuses specifically on the Roleplaying elements. http://steelministry.com/index.php Not all games are visible to the public. Especially the one where we all have private forums and no one knows what their characters don't see (that particular game is very intrigue based).
Claincy he/him Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 One of the biggest advantages of using steelministry is that because we are a small site and focused on the MAG we can be a lot more flexible with forum structure. We make a new subforum structure for each new campaign (and subforums within that) which can be a lot nicer to use and navigate than a mammoth thread. The campaign I run has 76 threads spread across it's Character Sheets, Action, Safehouse and General subforums (it has been running for over 2 years). We can also do cool things like limiting access to threads for the purpose of secrets like Kad mentioned. We can also set things up so you're character's stats appear in the sidebar under your name when you are posting in the forum for that campaign, which makes referring to them so much quicker and easier. Those kind of changes aren't really practical for a larger site. As Kad already said, we're not trying to steal traffic from 17s or anything, a lot of us use both sites for different purposes. We just wanted to let you know that the option is there, and you're welcome to join us there if you wish. 1

Now that you've taken this step, might I also point out that Crafty Games has also gone to great lengths to make a gorgeous set of Mistborn-themed dice, designed with the MAG's nudge system in mind, where all of the 6s have been replaced by an allomantic symbol. They ran a Kickstarter for them earlier this year, and are just shipping the dice to backers right now. You can order a set of 10 dice, which includes one die featuring all of the physical and mental metals, plus one for Gold and Atium. I don't know how soon they'll be shipping them. Or, if you're really keen on getting a set that also includes the 3 Kickstarter exclusive dice (lerasium, duralumin, and Electrum), I may or may not know someone who got a little overzealous and funded the Kickstarter campaign for way more sets of dice than he needs, and might be willing to part with some of his extra sets once they arrive. Mailliw73 he/him Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I'm game with either option and if the admins at SteelMinistry accept my registration(cough cough ) I think that'd work. Maybe we could try one game here, and just see how it goes, partially because it's easier on me to access one site and partially because it'll reach more people this way.

Or any of the others really, I'm pretty sure they'd be quite happy to help

Haelbarde he/him Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 See, I was sad that one needed to be over zealous to get them in Australia (and I didn't think to post here to see if anyone else was getting them to pitch in for a set...). So, just putting it out there, I'd be interested in paying for a set if someone happened to have a spare (and ya know, was happy to send them to Australia).
