Araris Valerian he/him Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 This may not be of very much signifigance, but Chapter 15 of TWoK says, "'Scared to go onward,' Kaladin said, 'but terrified to go back to what you were.' She nodded. 'I know how you feel,' he said." I think that this shows that there needs to be some sort of connection between spen and surgebinders aside from a sense of honor. Kaladin has always been worried about his future, from having to decide about whether or not to become a soldier to how to deal with running a bridgecrew. Syl clearly feels the same way. This would also explain why some honorspren are not as capable of choosing "good" men to bond with. If a spren valued the ability to make honorable decisions without remorse then that could create a surgebinder that was not bound by moral values such as how Dalinar and Kaladin.
