Chaos he/him Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 A literal English translation of a Chinese translation of Star Wars Episode 3 http://winterson.com/2005/06/episode-iii-backstroke-of-west.html And the redux: http://winterson.com/2009/01/episode-iii-backstroke-of-west-redux.html The best part? The Jedi Council being the Presbyterian Church. 3
KChan she/her Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Sheer comedic genius. So amazing. X3 So the Jedi council are Presbyterians, huh? 3
Andrew the Great he/him Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I love that they even missed the ones where the actual English words were there on screen. That, and that "Noooooooo!" gets translated as "Do not want." This is absoluely brilliant, though. 1
KChan she/her Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 This is actually where the "Do Not Want" meme comes from. There is no actual word for "No" in Chinese, so in order to negate a statement, one must put the 不 (bu) in front of a verb. In this case, because Vader doesn't want Padme to die, the most appropriate "No"-like statement is 不要 (bu yao), meaning literally "do not want." 3
KChan she/her Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 XD I know, right? I mean, I can't blame them too much for not knowing the word "no," but this is why it's always a good idea to have a native speaker proofread the translation before selling it.
Emeralis00 she/her Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Apparently the one who made the subtitles is preoccupied with being big and strong...and elephants. Is it just me, or is there something strange about that combination.
