I've alway wondered about blind Tineyes, and how they can they theoretically be equal to (if not greater) than what Daredevil can do. What do you tnink? would a blind (savant) Tineye even have echolocation? and would he ever need it if he didn't have it?

Spook in Hero of Ages could dodge enemy blows by feeling the change on the airflow. Of course, he was also so sensitive he could be downed by a papercut.

Yeah, but I was talking about a blind Tineye vs. Daredevil. Not Spook.

Well, everyone is blind behind the ears. If Spook can dodge by feeling airflow behind his back then he can do it in front of him. I don't know if it would be nearly as efficient as Daredevil, though.

I'll admit that Spook isn't blind, but he wears a cloth over his eyes that completely obscures his vision.

On another note, spelling mistakes in the title?

Actually, I've just had a thought. Get a savant level Tineye, put a blindfold on him, cover his skin so he can't feel anything, and give him earplugs. Would he be able to navigate by smell? Is there a higher level of savancy above regular savancy that lets him do that?

He would still be able to hear via bone conduction. If you cover his whole body with a sound-dampening-touch-dampening compound he could still hear via bone conduction through his nose (admittedly, this would likely take a while to learn) Edited by LabRat

I don't have a detailed analysis or anything, but going by my gut - a tineye savant, blind or no, would be far more capable than Daredevil. Like spook says, being a tineye is about what you can ignore to get the info you need. A blind person just has one less 'distraction' to other super senses, if anything it would give them more focus. Meanwhile daredevil (blanking on his name here) sees the world on fire which has gotta be distracting (or is that why he covers his eyes?).

Tl:dr, my votes on the savant.

Two things, the savant would have the upper hand, since they have more than echolocation, and can sense movement like a spider. And you should call a blind tineye a tinear, since that is their main sense they would use.

Yet a single punch or cut is painful enough to make a savant get to the brink of unconciousness, so a tin savant is pretty much made of glass.

true, but once they stopped burning their tin they would feel less pain than normal people. of course, that would make them easy pickings for Daredevil.

p.s. can't skilled tineyes choose to ignore some sensory inputs?

Up to a certain point, yes, but they can't truly turn them off, only filter them, so something big and sudden like a wound can't be filtered. Plus, turning off the tin to avoid the pain would only work if the blow was expected to hit, and starting to burn it again before the wound fully healed would cause imense pain.

As a learned skill, not a function of the magic, so for a Tin savant to ignore a battle wound would be like you or me learning to "ignore" torture.

A Tin savant compounder, however, could do what you describe by storing Touch (though he would then be giving up one of his major advantages)
