askthepaperclip he/him
Hi everyone! Having just finished Alloy of Law and The Emperor's Soul (and thus all of the published Cosmere works), I feel like I am finally ready to contribute rather than just lurk/mooch off the knowledge here :-) I first read TWoK shortly after AMoL came out, and got totally hooked on Brandon's writing. I'm also a big WoT fan (Tower Guard NYC for the ToM release tour!), and love the way Brandon finished the series. Unlike WoT, which I came to late, I am really excited to be getting in on the ground floor for SA, and am looking forward to having a pet theory of mine come true in 10 years :-) - Christian (aka Askthepaperclip)
Windrunner he/him
Hey, it's great to have you! I can't wait to see what ideas you've got. Let me know if you have any questions at all, sometimes this stuff can get pretty complicated and confusing. I'm currently working through the WoT for the first time myself. About 60 pages in to The Shadow Rising right now!
Senor Feesh
Wow, you're in for a slog Windrunner. Personal opinion, the first 5 WoT books are great, then there's a MASSIVE drop off in quality up to and including book 10. Book 11 starts to reverse direction, and 12 and 13 were excellent (14 I've yet to read, waiting for TPB so it matches the rest of my collection ). paperclip, glad to have you here and have another viewpoint for crazy speculation I feel the same about getting in on the ground floor with SA, it's a great place to be (but also frustrating in having to wait between books! D: ) May I ask which pet theory you're referring to?
askthepaperclip he/him
Lol Feesh I haven't written it (or thought of it) yet! I thought I had a bunch, but then I found this forum and realized that they were a) already thought of, and totally minor league stuff. I am particularly interested in Realmatic theory, so here is a teaser for something I have been thinking about..."Unite them" means the Shards, not people! ie, reforge Adonalsium, which Hoid might have alluded to in his final conversation with Dalinar, about chopping people up and putting them back together. Or, if not reforging it, at least uniting the Shardbearers in the fight against Odium. Windrunner, thanks for the welcome! I do have one question...what is the Dragonwasp legion? Windrunner he/him
Heh, the Dragonwasp Legion is a noble band of warriors crusading for truth in the face of utter wrong-ness If you look behind the Radiant table here you can see some mysterious crustacean creatures with wings from Aimia. When we noticed them, a debate rose about what to call them. I chose the "way" more awesome name "Dragonwasps" while some others chose "Crabwasps". KChan made the Legion to unite all of us Dragonwaspers under one banner. I think we might have won too, because the Crabwasps have yet to make their own banner In all honesty it's just a fun and silly debate about a non-canonical name, but I kept the banner because it looks so official and awesome. I think there are still a few others around here somewhere.
FlashWrogan he/him
I envy you Windrunner, reading through WoT for the first time Wow, you're in for a slog Windrunner. Book 11 starts to reverse direction, and 12 and 13 were excellent (14 I've yet to read, waiting for TPB so it matches the rest of my collection ).I have to disagree with you there. While there is a noticeable drop off in pacing in books 7-10, it didn't seem like a drop in quality to me. The major thing is that events are moving slowly enough that we don't get real nice distinct story arcs with definitive climaxes during those books. They are definitely there, just not as defined or big in scope. If you think of 6-10 more as one long book and read it straight through, it doesn't really lack those except for those who lack patience ^.^
askthepaperclip he/him
having read the first 10 books back to back, I tend to agree...I wasn't aware any of them sucked until someone told me :-P
