Town Square, Crook of the Plains - Jay'El, Ambrosius and Eerongal

Jay'El and Jonathan walk up to Eerongal and Ambrosius. Jonathan looks at the ground while Jay'El talks.

Cocking my head as i notice the two men, i watch them approach and listen to this new comer's explanation. I nod to Doc and say, "Doc, or i guess i should say Johnathan, You are welcome for having your life spared, however, maybe this will make you reconsider in the future taking on a job where you have to trick some one into a trap. Not all prey is as forgiving as myself."

(would here but I am kinda lost with the change.)

Ambro is plainly suspicious of the newcomer, and remains silent. This other man, the one called Doc, not much of a lackey. Perhaps a setup?

Jonathan's gaze darts around, nervous. He looks like he wants to say something, but he doesn't. He walks between Eerongal and Ambrosius to a nearby shack, where there is a piece of paper nailed to the wall. He rips the paper from its posting and seems to read it.

A tremor runs through his body like an electric shock. He stumbles forward and falls against the shack, then to ground, where he writhes and shakes.

He stops.

Ambro's eyes widen. "that was entirely unsuspected. Who wants to read the paper?" Well, I wonder if this is Destron's way of keeping control of his subordinates. Some kind of remotely killing formsphere...or he just had a heart attack.

after momentary shock from seeing him fall for seemingly no reason, i spring into action. I begin the shift into my paladin form (or instantly shift, time pending, as i'm not sure how long its been) and once finished, move over and begin to check Doc's vitals and prepare to use my lay on hands on him.

There is nothing, no pulse, no breathing, no anything. There are no wounds on his body, not a drop of blood was spilled here.

But the note remains.

scowling to myself, i look over at the page that doc had picked up. Cautiously, i flip it over with the head of my hammer and pin it down to see if i can see the contents of it.

Ambro sighs to himself. sad.gifGreat. Now I need to find a new person to talk to...

" you know, if you kill yourself it is not my fault."

How are we supposed to operate, when someone can just remotely pick people off.

The note reads:

Spheremorphs,

It has come to my attention that you are interested in my tournament. Now I've hopefully gotten yours. Rest assured that I do not intend to kill you. I want to see what you're capable of, and I can hardly see that from a corpse. But know that I can kill you at any time. Though I believe that our interests are similar enough for us to get along.

Cross the river to the east into the Western Plain, find the hill with cross marker on it and be there by midnight tomorrow. We will be introduced, and you will discover quite the opportunity.

Hope to meet you soon.

-A benefactor

The page hasn't been up very long, barely any of the grime persistent around you is on it. The handwriting is neat and uniform. And Doc's face is blank.

Obviously not from Destron then. Ambro looks to the other spheremorph and Eerongal. "Do either of you know of a formsphere that can kill remotely?"

Ambro begins searching the body of Doc.

closing doc's eyes, i stand from the corpse. "No. I don't, but i intend to find out."

Checking my pouch to make sure the few coins (what currency are we using? gold/silver coins, dollars, digital, clams, rocks, etc?) i had in there are still there, i say, "Make any preparations you need. We'll meet back here in an hour and discuss the plan from there and then head out"

Looking at the newly come spheremorph, i say, "You too, if you feel so inclined to travel with us."

Almost turning to walk away, i hesitate and turn back. Holding out my hand to the newly arrived man, i say plainly, "Eerongal."

You find a few meager things. A pocketwatch, a handkerchief, and three silver fivers.

Ambro hands the coins and pocketwatch to Eerongal.

"I don't really have a spot to keep it." Ambro gestures to his unusual clothing.

Ambro looks expectantly at the other spheremorph, waiting for a response.

Probably a lackey for another manipulator behind the scenes. It will get pretty annoying if Eerongal invites every person we meet to come with us. Hasn't he learned a little distrust?

Taking Eerongal’s hand, I say “Jay’el H’ka. This whole killing people at a distance thing disturbs me. I think I’d like to come with you to meet this… benefactor. And new Formspheres always interest me.”

Letting go of his hand, I turn to the cloth-wrapped Spheremorph, who seems not a little distrustful of me. “I hope you don’t mind. I think I’ll stick with you for a little while, since I’m already set to travel” You don’t want to trust me, ok. I’ll keep myself where you can watch until you do. “I just introduced myself to Eerongal here, as I’m sure you heard. What’s your name?”

After introductions are complete, I shift back to baseline. hopefully I won’t need to shift for a bit. That is starting to get exhausting.

I guess that is an introduction, if indirect. "My name is Ambrosius, I decided that I don't deserve an opinion on that ability of long-distance killing. One with the Power of Kings can't pass that kind of judgement."

Seeing Jay'el shift back to baseline Ambro relaxes slightly.

Oh good, he's relaxing. you can tell by the way his shoulders shifted. "Well, Ambrosius, where are we off to? According to Eerongal here, we've got about an hour." Something about his last comment finally makes its way into my mind. "Power of Kings? You mean Spheremounts?" I really hope he isn't just pulling my chain. If only Kings used Spheremounts in the Lost Age, that could explain why there are so few of them and why they're so hard to recreate.

Ambro frowns at that question.

"No. I meant a formsphere that I wield. Its name is Geass, the formsphere allows me to give a single command to a person that must be obeyed. I was saying that, since I remove Free Will, I can't say a formsphere of distance killing is wrong."

Ambro looks away for a moment.

"I would like to get to the hill early, to prepare. Perhaps, when we meet this spheremorph you might see Geass."

I guess that actually seems like a fair way to look at it. I think I can work with this guy. "Oh. Seems fair."

"I wouldn't mind getting there early either, but what about Eerongal?" Turning to Eerongal, I say, "Would you be okay with meeting us at the location after you've made what preparations you see fit? We'll try to set up tactical positions to fall back to, if everything goes haywire."

After considering the conversation momentarily, i reply, "Well, I intend to find out as much information about the area as I can from local hearsay before heading out. I also plan to see how hard of a march we need to make to get there, and get a hold of any necessary travelling equipment we need. I know nothing of this area, but it could be a hard day's ride away. However, if we wish to leave now, I can make due."

Addressing Eero, I say, "My vote is that we find out how far away this location is first. We need to be there by midnight tomorrow, and if it is a hard day's ride, we should leave now so that we can set the location up to our advantage," I say, nodding toward Ambrosius since it was his idea in the first place.

To both Eerongal and Ambro, I say, "We could also find out what sort of equipment we need, though if the location is far off we should head out immediately." I feel as if I'm repeating myself, so I clam up.

"From what I remember, West Plain is one of the few areas with marked roads and is more human than monster. It is near Fortress Lake, so We are probably going to need a boat," spoke Ambro.

I highly doubt that we are going to find one here; any boat we do find is likely going to have more holes than a Spore-Whale. Even if there wasn't, these so-called merchants would put some holes there.

Posted

"That still doesn't tell us how far away it is." Ah, screw it, I'll just ask a local. "I'll be right back."

I look around the town square, searching for someone who would know something about the West Plain, perhaps a merchant or other knowledgeable local.

Market, Crook of the Plains - Jay'El

You hear a tune sung in a deep, warm, accented voice coming from a building with an open wall. The glow of a roaring fire is visible, along with the silhouette of a large man. You look inside to see a massive man standing over an equally massive anvil, singing loudly while he pounds away with a hammer. Blacksmiths are usually knowledgeable folk, most everyone does business with them in some way or another. But a look around the forge tells you that this isn't a normal smithy like your brother in law's. There are strange devices hanging on the wall in addition to the normal variety of hammers and tongs, wrenches and pliers. Some of them are obviously high tech, others twitch like they might just be alive, and some have crystals embedded in them.

The smith hesitates, glancing over his shoulder to see you, then goes back to his work, no longer singing. "Not often I see a desert man in my smithy." You then realize you had moved practically inside the forge in your inspection. "If you've got some tech problem, I'm not too good with software, but you've come to the right place for a hardware problem. Can even work on magic stuff if you've got it."

Must be my lucky day. Thought that I was going to be hanging on to this component that Hapori pointed out for ages. And hey, blacksmithing. Aloi would flip if he found out I was ever interested in his craft. Oh, that would be fun to see. Focus, Jay, focus.

“Sorry, I was just attracted by the singing and the unusual tools,” I say. Wow, Jay, very smooth. He obviously doesn’t like outsiders hearing his singing. Say something else, more relevant. “I’m Jay’el. I was actually looking for someone like you.” Not entirely true, but not a lie either. Much better. “You said you can do things with magical hardware? Well, can you make anything useful out of this?” I ask, presenting him the component I pulled from the tigerplane. “I got it off of a beast in the Machine Desert. I’d have gone to Desert’s Edge, but Crook was closer.” Not to mention DEX has probably blacklisted me by now, disappearing in the middle of a dig and all. “If you can make it into a part for anything Spheremorph related, I’d like to watch the process.”
