MitchBade he/him Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 On the coppermind wiki it does not say White Sand is cannon but neither does it say it isn't like it does for Aether of Night. Does this mean it is cannon? Especially because it will be published as a series of graphic novels. Should Taldain have its own forum? Or no because it isn't published as of yet? 1
skaa he/him Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) According to a recent Q&A in Chicago, the unpublished White Sand novel is not canon but the graphic novels will be. [01:38:35] Questioner: You are releasing a graphic novel version of White Sand, which one is going to be canon to the cosmere, the graphic novel or the novel you originally wrote? Brandon: Oh definitely the graphic novel. The book I originally wrote has its problems, and I never released it. The books don’t become canon until I release them. This will be the canon release of White Sand. I don’t think-- If the graphic novel does well we are not going to write novels, I’m going to do the second one as a graphic novel original. That’s just how we are going to do it-- is my plan right now. There are things when we went back to it that we tweaked, for instance Hoid’s appearance in the original novel was only a reference. He was mentioned by, what did I end up calling him, Eis? Ais, I had both names for a while, it was only a reference to one of his old cases, that’s his only appearance. And we’re like “Ehh people are going to expect more now”. So we are writing in a better appearance for him. Stuff like that, I feel Khriss’ character needs better development than the novel had, so we are working on that. Stuff, you know. Things you would do in a major revision. A sub-forum for White Sand might be created once the first White Sand graphic novel comes out. We'll just have to see what the Admins do. Edited April 30, 2015 by skaa 4
kaellok he/him Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Every time I see this post (which is now twice, so, we're talking HUUUUGE numbers here) I think to myself, "Is white sand cannon <what>?!" Like, "Is White Sand cannon ready to fire yet?! The Void Bringers are advancing, and we need something to stop them!!" Because cannon is the spelling of a weapon that makes a big boom and kills people. Canon is what people on forums like these usually tend to mean, instead. My absolute favorite, though, is when people talk about head-cannon (pretending a story is a certain way even if there isn't textual evidence from the author to truly support it). It makes me think of a person's head turning into a cannon, then firing away at a floating cartoon-image of the story and blasting it to pieces, and shreds of it falling off until the floating cartoon-image of the story matches what they want it to be. (Not meaning to be pedantic, even though I've succeeded at just that. It always brings me a little bit of joy when I see the probably-wrong-spelling because my brain is weird. Have a cookie!) 4
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Thanks for the tidbit of news! I'm excited for this, but I'm also trepiditious because of the lack of news and updates we get after we are told to expect "news in the next few months!" Dynamite Comics in particular has been in radio silence on the subject.... Just makes me nervous! 1
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 The art is being worked on constantly. We're nearing the halfway point for the art for volume 1. (That doesn't include coloring.) I haven't done the math to see when the trend line will get to the end of the volume. 3
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Outstanding! Thanks, Peter! My mind is now at rest for this particular matter
Blaze1616 he/him Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Peter, is it possible to place a progress bar for the graphic novels in the tracker on the website? That would be awesome, but I understand there might be some legal issues preventing such a thing. 1
