TheOneKEA
This post is in reference to the Hal-Con notes in this post. Brandon said that the process that Preservation used to force some of Ruin's power into a Physical aspect of Preservation's choosing was "kinda like splintering", and that it had to do with how the Shard's powers clash with one another. Since the two Shards were supposed to be in balance with one another after Preservation used his Cognitive aspect to trap Ruin's Cognitive aspect, I think that Preservation forced the creation of atium specifically to weaken Ruin enough to allow him to be trapped. I'm curious to know if this is at all plausible.
Nepene he/him
Preservation wanted Atium and Malatium to be of use to the people, as he recognized that it would be a very powerful tool--and that using it up could help defeat Ruin. But he also recognized that sixteen was a mythological important number, and felt it would make the best sign for his followers. So he took out the most unlikely (difficult to make and use) metals for his sign to his followers. But that doesn't have much to do with Hemalurgy's use here. https://sites.google.com/site/brandonothology/QA-by-book/mistborn
TheOneKEA
https://sites.google.com/site/brandonothology/QA-by-book/mistborn That quote basically explains my OP by providing the motivation for Preservation to create atium in the first place. By doing so he brings Ruin down to his level of power and he provides a useful tool for Allomancers.

Everything Preservation did, back so many years ago, it was part of some super long term plan. Preservation may have known that malatium would help Vin defeat the Lord Ruler and as such later free Ruin, thus allowing final defeat of Ruin.
