Kestrel she/her Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I need a new art program. I currently use Photoshop. Here's the thing, though. I can't get SAI because I own a Mac. I have Firealpaca but its really.. not that good. I would like something similar to SAI but works on a Mac machine. Preferably free. 1
Bort he/him Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Unsure if you can get it for Mac, but try GIMP. It's open source, so it's free, and is the most in depth art package I've ever seen, including Photoshop.
Kestrel she/her Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) I've used Gimp. No. Not what I want. Its. Ew. I used it for quite some time before getting Photoshop. Will never go back. There was no line stabilizer, and that is mainly what I want now. Smooth, clean, vector-y style lines without having to learn Illustrator. Gimp was like.. lesser Photoshop. [Edit] Have been fooling with FireAlpaca a bit more. Its interesting. My program was outdated, so I updated it. The new features are nice for lineart. Might keep using it. Has anyone heard of Manga Studio? I've heard its okay but I want to see for myself, maybe. Might get the free trial. Might also install a VM on my Mac for SAI. Edited April 21, 2015 by LarkoftheRiver
swablueme Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 SAI is a must, beautiful line stabilisation. Lazy Nezumi is pretty good, however!
Kestrel she/her Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 My whole reason for making this post was because I couldn't get SAI.. so..
Surgebound Rainspren he/him Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Cloud Alpaca is a pretty good program. But It definitely feels very much like photoshop. (ps: use the website is in Japanese so it pays to translate it)
Kestrel she/her Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I checked up on that, isn't it the same as Fire Alpaca? In any case, I've been playing with Fire Alpaca more. Still not as good as SAI, but not horribly bad. Still looking.
Allomancy she/her Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Potato. In a minefield. Best technology ever.
Fanderson he/him Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 For just drawing I generally use Krita or MyPaint (both free), but they might be less of what you want as far as smooth clean vector-y lines though I'm not sure. Best if used with a Wacom device or similar. And I agree about GIMP. At least for Windows the UI is awful. Paint.NET I've used a lot but it isn't as advanced.
Kestrel she/her Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 I've heard of Krita before, but probably won't get it as their site says that the mac version is unstable. And MyPaint isn't for Mac, sadly.
Curious Anamaximder he/him Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Has anyone used Sketch Club? Lots of fun.
