Edgedancer he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I like it, though that might just be because I've been playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and there's a town called Haven there Haven is in Inquisition as well? Didn't have time to play it yet but wasn't a town with the same name in Origins?
Voidus Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Haven is in Inquisition as well? Didn't have time to play it yet but wasn't a town with the same name in Origins? Yeah same town, been completely reworked though, most of DAI looks so different from Origins it may as well be set somewhere completely different. Looks awesome though.

Voidus Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Name: Dragon Primary ability: Transform into a dragon Location: Cordvallis. Well then, let there be dragons. Well you'll need to add self-replication to fulfill the plural component but I like him
Kobold King he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Last night I dreamed I was touring the bayous of Reckonerverse Louisiana with Mizzy. We were awesome partners and we managed to assassinate a High Epic with the power to create giant lions out of magma. Magma-lions. Lions made out of magma. His weakness was somebody writing the word "lion" within his vicinity. Then Mizzy and I did a high five and congratulated one another. While deeply in love with her, I was too nervous to tell her how I really felt, and merely followed in her footsteps, desperately wanting more from our relationship but daring not to upset the status quo. I have weird dreams sometimes. 2

If you need me, I'll always be your wingman. We wrote the word "lion" on a Post-it note, attached the note to our windshield, and ran him over with a truck. Fun fact: cookies are 80% more romantic than candlelit dinners. 2
Kobold King he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 On names, I was thinking something that points out how "happy and safe" people are there. I was thinking "Haven" as an idea. Nice, but I personally think "Corvallis" is already a much more original, awesome, and badchull name than pretty much anything we could think of. I mean, it comes from a Latin phrase meaning "heart of the valley." You can't get any cooler than Latin.

TheSilverDragon he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Secondary Power: If Dragon dies, s/he splits into two smaller versions of theirself. One mind controls all forms of Dragon. S/he only has the amount of matter they start with. There's a lot of mini-Dragons flying around Cordvallis, spying on vanillas. What happens when Dragons turns back into a human. Little people running around Cordvallis! I'm all for it

Comatose he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Is that a cheer for Lucentia? Alright, so I'l spread this out over multiple responses to the posts I noticed these points but just remember that I like the idea. And you discovered the secret of Astoira's economy. Assuming she can't manipulate Epics, in which case she would have no reason not to rule herself, she sounds like the kind of Epic that would get assassinate in the very first power struggle within the city, even more so, because those general mindrape meetings mean she's very open to getting killed. The problem with Bubble is that the only plot line with Epics that aren't already integrated into the city would need to start with "teleporter kills high-priority targets in the city." The biggest sin of this place is that even though I have an Epic that would fit in but most likely not the time to write her. I'd forgotten that Lucentia used her diamond powers to fund her empire! How did I forget that? For duplication epic I was thinking more of necessary resources, such as food and power, and then luxury items as requested by other epics, rather than precious resources to be sold, but I still love the comparison. Now I have an image of Lucentia coming to Corvallis to end the duplication epic for "stealing her idea." I imagined her power to generate and give positive feelings as a form of gifting, so it would not work on other epics. Her emotional history rewrites would work on other epics though, but she needs skin contact for that. As I work on her character though, I feel more and more like I don't want her to die right away. Maybe, she senses that things are turning against her, and that her life is in danger, and so she vanishes into the city? She could also be a part of some bigger plot against or with the High Epic. I'll have to keep thinking about it though. I agree with her being a prime target (that's the intent), but since her power is so valuable, my hope would be that any epic seeking to remove her would also want to use her to help control their own city state. That might be wishful thinking though. Thanks for these points! They are really helping me flesh things out On the "Bubble Epic" point, there are a couple of ways around it. My original intent was for the action to start with epics already inside, and then add exterior epics as we go along. Epics from outside though could get in the normal way, by entering the city as immigrants, pledging loyalty to the high epic, and promising to abide by her laws, and then start to break those promises. Even if they got one agent inside (either by teleportation or other means), all they would need to do is threaten the "Bubble Epic" for an instant, get her to drop the bigger shield, and the rest of a team could get in. I'm also sure some of the existing citizens have ties to the outside, and have found ways around the shield, such as going out of town for 'business' and then smuggling other people or epics back into town. The overall purpose of the "Bubble Epic" in my mind is to delay an all out free for all for as long as possible. I think it would be more interesting if Epics had to struggle to get in, and then bide their time before making their moves. If people feel like it is too difficult to get in, I'm open to adjusting "Bubble Epic's" power. I've been considering making a new section for a more regular outlet of my many Epics so if we need one and Comatose wants to worldbuild Corvallis more I could speed my vague idea into production. I was thinking of making it more of a thoroughfare, a common stopping point for travelling Epics so that people could move from one setting to another through there and meet up with new characters. (I was vaguely thinking of Bend, which is an awesome name for an Epic city) I would not object! Your crossroads idea sounds awesome, and since it is a thoroughfare, people could start developing their characters there, and then bring them to Corvallis when that thread is ready, or slot them in elsewhere. It could be a good place for new players to train their characters too (I'm thinking like, a prologue level, before they pop into one of the more complicated threads).
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 It's actually the Financier who provides resources for Astoria with his multiplication powers. So if he went up against the duplication Epic in Corvallis, they'd get him shouting about heresy against Savior Zero by way of impersonating a prophet. I love the crossroads idea. 1

I'd imagine that with Lucentia around the actual value of diamonds would have dropped significantly. The book even talks about this. No, as Twi said, the town has an Epic with exactly the same power. I'm not sure how you feel about it but something that can manipulate my memories/mind is scary/dangerous enough that, if I were an Epic, I would just remove it on principle. Not only as an invader but always. How does this bubble actually work? It's kind of useless if some major Epic could simply walk in and start causing trouble. The normal plan of only keeping away large numbers isn't reliable.

So if he went up against the duplication Epic in Corvallis, they'd get him shouting about heresy against Savior Zero by way of impersonating a prophet. I love the crossroads idea. Gotchya! That makes sense. I deliberately haven't fleshed out the duplication epic's powers because I'm still hoping someone else will take her, but I'm hoping she'll be distinct enough from the Financier. Perhaps, if we still want to go the "epics based on powerpuff girls" route" then the Blossom epic and the duplication epic could merge. Instead of just duplicating things, her power could be to "plant" and "grow" anything (which would also increase the need for the High Epics perfect weather control). "Blossom Epic" could plant things like generators, bread, cupcakes, silk, weapons, etc, and then grow plants that bear the original object she planted as fruit. I think this could be enough to distinguish her from the Financier (moreso than if she just made flat-out copies) and it fits in more with the garden/paradise motif I have in my head for Corvallis. The normal plan of only keeping away large numbers isn't reliable. In my mind, new epics or people are held at the border (outside the bubble), where they are checked out. Then, once a day, or every other day, or some other time-frame, "Bubble Epic" drops the field to let epics wishing to enter come in, and epics wishing to leave go out. Again, I'm open to suggestions and further world-building in this area. Basically, the intent of the bubble is a defense for the city (in times of siege, no one would be let or out) and a means of controlling population movement. If you can think of other ways to accomplish these goals, I'm open to suggestions. As for the one major epic causing trouble problem, inside the bubble, Corvallis isn't exactly defenseless. I'm certain the High Epic has enforcers ready to defend her realm, and would also fight against invaders herself, should the need arise. 1

Alright, so any plan for how, with the idea of the place within mindslaving everyone into not wanting to leave, enough word got out for people to wait at the border?
Edgedancer he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Aonar, how is that Azrael segment with Snoopy coming along? Also so this post wasn't complete filler. Here's how I learn to use physics to kill Epics. https://youtu.be/vVvAzRiNNS0 Edited April 3, 2015 by Edgedancer
Comatose he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Alright, so any plan for how, with the idea of the place within mindslaving everyone into not wanting to leave, enough word got out for people to wait at the border? Remember, Euphoria's power only works on Vanillas, not epics, so I'm guessing word of mouth would spread in the Epic community. Also, I wouldn't necessary equate her power with "mind-slaving". Is it used to control people, yes absolutely. Does it totally negate their free will? I would say that it more just severely inhibits people's ability to utilize their free will. Someone who realizes that their positive emotions, though wonderful, with enough will power could potentially fight off the addiction. It would be incredibly difficult, but not infallible. That being said, I think the primary form of word spreading would be through the epic community. I think Euphoria only uses her second emotional history altering power on epics who are causing trouble for Corvallis, either making them remember things so negative that they leave, or so positive they decide to stop causing trouble.

I was thinking more og her secondary power, because unless we think of this working differently there isn't mich difference between mind controlling someone and rewritting their emotions.
Fatebreaker he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 AUGH!!! CURSE YOU SHORT BATTERY LIFE AND POORLY TIMED POWER OUTAGE!!! I spent a LONG time writing that post. grrr... I blame Electro. And Quota, just because. On the subject of dreams, once I had a dream that Fatebreaker kidnapped Kobold, Twilyght, and I. It was a rather strange dream. Whoa, really? Cool. Out of curiosity, what did I look like? Was my voice deep and booming, or crazed and maniacal? And how did I kidnap you? Was it ingenious or cliche? 2
Edgedancer he/him Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Currently working on new Epic, as a preview zis name: Leidenfrost. Have fun guessing what zis can do.
