"Illegitimate" referring to the fact that it's never stated or really even implied these people's parents were married.

Not dystopian. More middle-grade to YA.

Wait. WAIT. There is something between kids books and YA books? How did I missed the existence of middle-grade books? OMG, you changed my life. O.o

Anyways, this thing started out as basically middle-grade, then it grew into YA as time went on.

That's what I wanted to say! Not fair... *joking*

 

So a 12 year old protagonist is still a middle-grade book. Uhuh. I'll get there. Need to get my definitions straight.
