Mrs. Voidus she/her Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Alright. So I know I'm a little late to the game, but this sounds awesome, so I'm going to do my part in keeping it from dying, if I can. I have a couple of questions first, though. Let us say there are these five gods: The god of rats, the god of mice, the god of squirrels, the god of all other mammals, the god of all other animals. Now let us say their borders are linear and look like so: rats | squirrels | mammals | mice | other animals If the god of mice were vanquished by the people worshipping the god of rats, who would envelop those powers? Would the god of rats become the god of rats & mice? Would the god of other animals envelope mice as well? Am I completely misunderstanding how this all works? If the Mice people were killed off, thus killing their God, then there would be much less competition for resources in the area which the mice people used to control. Therefore the mammals, and other animal tribes would get stronger on these grounds... Thereby increasing their numbers and so there are more worshippers of the God, so the power increases. But if the rat people then occupied the mice territory on a permanent basis, then they would have two tribes which would grow back the first tribes, original size - or larger, considering they took out a whole other tribe already. The God of animals "Ferachus" becomes a major God who survives the war, but at this point I will say that he was not always God of all animals. This may have changed from the beginning of the game so sorry for the confusion. Lets say that the Gods have dominion over all animals in an area, and at this point, the Ferachians (or as you wrote, "Other Animals") have a substantially larger area of land. So the borders would look more like this: rats | squirrels | mammals | mice | o t h e r a n i m a l s | So I suppose that if the area of "mice" is no longer inhabited then the God of whomever's people move into that space now has dominion over those animals, (which is the only power that can happen with animals - and Chiskreven are not really animals, they are sort of the creative step between humans and animals). In this case, the Gods (and feel free to name them whatever you like except for Ferachus, which is taken) that you are thinking about would be Gods such as, Ferachus, God of the creatures of the Southern Grasslands and Plains (see map)... or Eanid, God of the Desert Beasts. Please ask me to clarify anything that doesnt make sense. If it is the god of rats who envelops the mice powers, would people worshipping the god of rats also gain mice related powers? From what I've gathered the rat worshippers would not gain mice powers, but instead have their rat powers enhanced? True, but do not forget that a child of two races would have both power sets, until one God dies, which they would not so long as the child worshipped both God's of their parents. The Animal Gods do not see much distinction between the people they created, and as such, they are not bothered by larger amounts of mixing. If a god has one last living worshipper, and that worshipper is on their 3rd incarnation, and they die, I'm pretty sure I understand it correctly that the god would then die upon the worshippers death. Would this person reincarnate? No. Reincarnation is, at this point in time directed by the Gods, if the god of that person has one worshipper left and then that worshipper dies, there is no longer anyone left to worship the God and it dies. If yes, would the new incarnation have any powers? All souls can only be reincarnated into bodies of the same race as their God's creation. New souls can be created, but only by living Gods. Once I have these answers I have a few characters in mind. as a general RP question, as I've yet to RP on 17S, do you guys normally take weeks to respond? I noticed this RP thread has only 4 replies, and not everyone has contributed their first post yet. Oh, and thanks for the answers, anyone who takes the time to respond! No problemo! Thanks so much for joining, I am really pleased that you have taken an interest in my idea. Feel free to put a character bio on this thread when you are ready for it to be approved. I know. I want to do my second post but I'm waiting for Newan. It can be difficult for some people to post regularly, has anyone tried to get into contact with him? It may be the case that you could write your next scene and then the other writers just work around your progress. I am happy to wait, but I don't want this game to die either (though I know that I also need to more effort in) so maybe you could have a secondary, minor character until we know what is going on? 3
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) All right, so rather than gods being limited by specific ideas (such as rats, mice, lilies, sunflowers, etc.) the gods are limited by area and overarching ideas (god of animals in the X area, god of flowers in the Y area, etc). So then are there multiple sky gods, or just one? Is there a god of clouds, or would that fall under water? Is there a god of the hunt/hunting? Or rather, can there be? I apologize about this. I'm trying to come up with two gods for two different characters. One is to be nomadic (and the corresponding god also so), is that possible? For a god to be nomadic? The second doesn't have any specification, I just want to understand how the deities work so it fits rather than clashes with your world. Edited February 11, 2015 by Blaze1616 2
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Some RP's take off like a shot, gathering hundreds of posts, but those are rare. Others, Like Tamriel, struggle on for a while, then die. The average play-by-post RP dies before the 6 month mark. Right, that's how most freeform RPs on forum sites seem to work, at least in my experience. I did a bunch of freeform RPs on forums back in my junior high and high school days *chokes at the realization that that was almost 10 years ago* and the response rate was a post once every other day, if not every day or multiple posts a day. Of course, that was prior to the boggy schedule of college and adulthood (as I'm fairly certain a fair number of the other players were also high school students). If I start getting really into the RP community here on 17S, my responses should come, bare minimum, once a day on weekdays (weekends are a no go for me). I merely brought it up to get a better understanding of the community here. The hardest hurdle for a RP to overcome is the beginning. The biggest issue that leads to a RP's downfall, in my experience, is getting the players together. If the characters never come into contact, everyone is just writing their own little novella, rather than roleplaying together. What often has to happen is someone has to bite the bullet and make that awkward post where their character stumbles into someone else's scene. It's weird, no one ever seems to want to do it, but without it the RP never amounts to anything. Every RP I've been a part of which successfully jumps that hurdle has passed the 25 page mark. Though that's not incredible impressive, it's better than 3 pages. Hopefully Paidia will soar over that hurdle Edited February 11, 2015 by Blaze1616 1

I'm trying to come up with two gods for two different characters. One is to be nomadic (and the corresponding god also so), is that possible? For a god to be nomadic? I know it sounds contradictory that a God can be both area based and nomadic, but yes they can be nomadic. I am part of a nomadic tribe, BUT we can only move around and everything still works because we have no spiritual competition left. At this point in the Paidia time line, gods of similar realms like stars and other knowledgeable space stuff have been wiped out. The second doesn't have any specification, I just want to understand how the deities work so it fits rather than clashes with your world. Thanks for trying to work within the world, and it's nice to know that there will be someone contributing regularly. Looking forward to hearing what you some up with! Also you are right about there having to be a common goal, I think that this is the point in game when the three alliances would be made so there is no reason other alliances cant also come into being. 3
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) Alrighty, so here's what I got: Theron, god of hunting Name: Theron, god of huntingSpecies: GodSex: MaleRole: NPC/Minor POVDetails: Theron is the god of hunting. He used to be a very powerful god, worshipped by many a nomadic tribe, having killed all other hunting gods. As agriculture was developed, though, humans slowly grew to embrace farming, and Theron’s power began to dwindle. He is now left with but a single follower. Back when Theron was a mighty god, he was very boastful and full of pride. He would rarely help his followers, allowing them to struggle so that those who succeeded often could become champions. As his powers dwindled, however, Theron began to grow reserved. Agriculture had stolen his powers due to being a more reliable food source. In attempts to counteract the loss of his followers, he began aiding the humans in hunts, enhancing their powers. His efforts were for naught, though, as humans could never forget history, and how hunting was such a gamble. Theron’s final follower, a hardened man named Salutem, is Theron’s only hope for survival. Theron has taken the man as a champion, often speaking with him directly as a mentor and a friend. He’s also granted the human with enhanced powers, though Theron’s own dwindling strength does not add much to the man’s powers from birth. Theron hopes that Salutem can somehow forge a family, and possibly even a new tribe, but given the man’s recent history that does not seem likely. As such, the god awaits death, hoping to give his one last follower some peace of mind before they both perish together. I understand that Theron's backstory might not jive with your world. If you would like me to change it, please tell me. No reason to clash when we don't have too. Salutem Theronisues Name: Salutem TheroniseusNickname: SalSpecies: HumanSex: MaleRole: Major POVAge: 34Incarnation: 3Tribe: TheronosusPowers: Enhanced Senses, Enhanced Survivability, Enhanced Physical Prowess and Abilities, Raw Meat Ingestion Enhanced Sense: The individual’s five senses are enhanced well beyond that of a normal human. A self-explanatory power. Enhanced Survivability: The individual is better able to survive. This includes being able to function off less food, better withstand fluctuations in temperature, and the ability to quickly adapt to most environments. This does not include any ability to “defy” death. Enhanced Physical Prowess and Ability: A relatively self-explanatory power. The individual’s strength, speed, balance, and finesse are enhanced. Raw Meat Ingestion: The individual has the ability to consume raw meat without any adverse effects. This does not mean raw meat tastes pleasant, however. Details: Salutem is the last surviving worshiper of Theron, the god of hunting. He is a hardened, blunt man who does not appreciate much humor. Practical and often logical, he possesses a wealth of common sense and a lack of higher knowledge. Salutem is a member of the Theronosus tribe, or he used to be. Having gone out with a hunting party, an accident caused him to separate from the group, and the injuries prolonged his journey back to the camp. When he returned, however, his entire tribe had died of a rampant disease. Among the tribe were his fourth-born wife and their first-born son. A third-born himself, Salutem gathered his supplies and left. Being the last of Theron’s followers, Salutem has built a personal relationship with his god. It is due to this that Salutem is very aware of his situation, and that without starting a new family Theron is to die along with his own sorry self. A new family, however, is the last thing Salutem wants, and he awaits the embrace of death once more. Perhaps then the pain will end. Edit: removed, because I missed how Winter's disease tribe was based in the mountains, because I am half blind, apparently. The updated version of the characters that were below are on the next page. Kantern Umbra Name: Kantern Umbra Species: Human Sex: Male Role: Major POV Age: 27 Incarnation: 4 Tribe: Klefydurah-Umbra Powers: Disease Immunity, Disease Manipulation, Stealth Enhancement, Dark Manipulation Disease Immunity: The individual is immune to all disease. They show no symptoms, and suffer no consequence. This does not mean the individual cannot carry diseases. Disease Manipulation: The individual can cultivate and maintain diseases within themselves. Stealth Enhancement: The individual’s abilities to sneak and perform stealthy maneuvers is enhanced. This includes increased balance, increased finesse, and the ability to move near silently. Dark Manipulation: The individual can manipulate darkness. Could be viewed as Light Manipulation, the individual has the ability to cultivate, enhance, and shift the position of shadows and darkness. The individual cannot create darkness, there must already be a source available. When shifting or moving shadows or darkness, one part of the shadow or darkness must be anchored in its original position. Details: Kantern is the symbol of unity between the Klefydurah and Umbra tribes; the son of the two tribe leaders. His father was the chief shaman of the Umbra tribe, worshippers of the god of darkness beneath Paidiá’s Teeth, Tenebris. His mother was the Mistress of the god of disease of the western hills, Klefyd, and therefore leader of the Klefydurah tribe. A generation ago, when his parents were first-borns, the two gods agreed to combine in the name of their own prosperity. As a result, the tribe leaders were instructed to marry for eternity, meaning they would be bound to each other across all incarnations. Kantern was their first child, as well as the new, combined tribe’s first child. As such, he was the first to be born with powers of both Tenebris and Klefyd. In addition, the combination of followers has boosted the powers of the two gods, making Kantern the most powerful individual in the tribe. He is now a fourth-born, and gearing up to take the mantle of tribe leader once again, until his father is of age in his fifth life, as his father is a rather old fourth-born. Kantern serves as the head of the Sicariorum, a group of members of the tribe with powers from both gods, who are assassins for hire. Using their Tenebris powers for stealth and their Klefyd powers as a weapon, the Sicariorum make perfect assassins. This was the gods’ original intent when merging their tribes; to carve a niche that will serve as protection against other tribes that might want to overtake them. Dominam Infirmum Name: Dominam Infirmum Nickname: Domi or Fir Species: Human Sex: Female Role: NPC/Minor POV Age: 16 Incarnation: 5 Tribe: Klefydurah-Umbra Powers: Disease Immunity, Disease Manipulation Disease Immunity: The individual is immune to all disease. They show no symptoms, and suffer no consequence. This does not mean the individual cannot carry diseases. Disease Manipulation: The individual can cultivate and maintain diseases within themselves. Details: Dominam is the Mistress of Klefyd, god of disease of the western hills. As Mistress, she was chosen at birth by Klefyd to fulfill said role, in which she becomes not only leader of the tribe upon reach adulthood each incarnation, but also speaks with Klefyd directly. The Mistress is to also never marry, unless instructed to do so by Klefyd. Domi eternally married Hostislevis Umbra when Klefyd ordered her to, effectively merging the Klefydurah and Umbra tribes. Now Domi, as Mistress, serves as second in command of the tribe, with the Tenebris’s lead shaman serving as tribe leader. She is also Kantern’s mother. Domi is currently a fifth-born, having suffered an early fourth-death from an accident. Being 16 years of age in her fifth-life, she will soon pass on the post of Mistress to a newborn chosen by Klefyd. Once that first-born is trained to serve as Mistress, Domi will relinquish the title. Hostislevis Umbra Name: Hostislevis Umbra Nickname: Levis Species: Human Sex: Male Role: NPC/Minor POV Age: 62 Incarnation: 4 Tribe: Klefydurah-Umbra Powers: Stealth Enhancement, Dark Manipulation Stealth Enhancement: The individual’s abilities to sneak and perform stealthy maneuvers is enhanced. Details: Hostislevis is the leader of the Klefydurah-Umbra tribe, and Tenebris’s lead shaman. Levis was informed one day after becoming head shaman that he was to join the Umbra and Klefydurah tribes by eternally marrying Dominam, Mistress of Klefyd. They later had a child, Kantern, who takes Levis’s place during his reincarnation period before adulthood. Other NPCs Name: Tenebris, god of darkness beneath Paidiá’s Teeth Species: God Sex: Male Name: Klefyd, god of disease of the western hills Species: God Sex: Male I like the way you are thinking and working around a central theme, but there has already been someone who wanted to write a disease tribe. So definitely go with the first two characters, and the we will see who contributes. If they don't end up using that tribe then you can, and I'll let you know if that happens. I also like the cultural elements of your creations, so if you wanted to use all those characters but in a different tribe then please do. I would recommend reading back on the old posts in this discussion thread so there is no accidental overlap. But do go ahead and do a post for your first two characters! Looking forward to it 3
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) Yes, I saw there was a disease tribe, but I somehow missed them being based in the mountains. My apologies Winter. I'm going to try to change the disease bit, and am currently liking the idea of herbs/poison, to keep to the theme for the characters. I'll post new bios once I iron everything out. Sorry once again, Winter! Edit: Names will change too, as most of them were Latin or Greek for illness, disease, sick, etc. Edited February 16, 2015 by Blaze1616 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 No. Maybe something in IRL? According to his profile feed, his anxiety kicked in. Poor guy. Maybe send him a PM reminding him that, once he's back in the groove of things, we miss him? So he doesn't forget altogether?
Voidus Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 So I've talked with Newan and he doesn't plan on continuing with Paidia but he said he's happy for people to take up his characters, if no one else wants to I think I might to try and get things rolling again.

I still need to get a chiskreven post up. I was going to try something big and flashy, but now I think I'll just do a peaceful post about a chiskreven going fishing. How does that sound?
Voidus Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 So would you be ok if I took over Newans character Winter? It should help get things moving and I should be able to get something up within the next day or so.
Comatose he/him Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 This idea is very interesting to me, I'm just trying to decide if I have time to keep up. I'm also not sure how claiming deities/cultures work, specifically the main ones. I have some ideas for a Water god/goddess, so I'd like to know if I would be free to work on them, or if, because Water is one of the main ones, if there are some restrictions. If that's the case, I might do a lesser water deity. My other idea was for a chaos/trickster deity (modeled after Eris from Greek mythology likely), who likes causing strife between other gods/cultures. My other question was about how sub-attributes for gods work. Like, could my water deity have trickster/chaotic sub attributes (since water is mercurial and constantly changing), or are gods tied solely to single attributes? I'm thinking something like how Athena from greek mythology is the Goddess of knowledge, but also associated to a lesser extent with law, war, virginity, industry, etc, or how Artemis is a goddess of the wilds, the hunt, the moon, childbirth, etc. With this system, I would guess that potential sub-attributes could not be this far reaching, as that would cause significant overlap with other deities, but would overlap of related concepts be possible? That question got really rambly, so please let me know if it doesn't make sense. As for a character, I was thinking of making a drifter (to facilitate meetings with characters of other cultures), who is followed/haunted by his/her god for some reason to be determined. Another idea I had was for some sort of death themed god with necromantic undertones. Would that be possible? Anyways, great ideas! I'll let you know if I come up with a character and feel like I have time. Any answers to my questions are appreciated 4

I'll let you know if I come up with a character and feel like I have time. Any answers to my questions are appreciated Wow and golly gee wiz it's so cool you might want to play! The power of the "death God" you came up with is actually the power of the life god (as the priests can 'breathe life' as it were into the dead) but your arch may be that you play as the life God and kill off the tribe of Death God and gain their powers OR play as the death tribe and show some foreshadowing conflicts with the life God. I don't know who is playing often now as a few of us were but not really enough for me to feel like it was worth continuing (even thought there were heaps of really great ideas and well written characters) but the point of this sentence is that there is already a character who is a wandering nomad and his deal is that he is the last of his tribe and needs to breed pronto. So the wandering character you listed sounds a little similar, but that could be the cool point if the two of you decided to co-op and come up with a secret thing that way. I have pretty much listed all the info about the Gods that I have come up with so far, so whatever you think fits in world would be a great addition to the game, and in this (and only this) do I like surprises so feel free to just start writing and reveal things as you go along. Oh and about the multiple elements to the Gods thing... Yes, Greek mythology was forefront in my mind in the creation/ imagining stage so a multitasking God is fine by me, but they would have to be pretty strong and have quite a few tribes people (im thinking 200+) as at this stage resource competition is pretty important, and any tribe who does not have to compete in their near vicinity would have stronger/ more varied powers... so long as they made sense and where related. So thanks for even considering, and I hope you do find the time because I am obviously quite attached to this concept and the more players we have, the more likely it is to survive! 2
Comatose he/him Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I probably will not be able to post very regularly for the next month or so, but I thought I would get my ideas out on screen, and see what you think of them/if there are any changes that need to be made. I'm still a little uncertain about some of the nuances of your world, so please let me know if I overstep or make any mistakes. As for the concerns about keeping the RP alive, something that helps with MBI is our central location and major plot-lines. While characters are allowed their own separate plots, the central plot-lines keep things moving and provide opportunities for conflict and interaction. The central location gives characters more opportunity to interact with one another. Now, this RP is a little different because you are dealing with large tribes and nations as well as individuals. Since the tribes seem fairly insular (as there is no interbreeding), it might be difficult for people of different tribes to interact. Perhaps you could play it on a larger scale, using character viewpoints to spell out larger action sequences. We could move in macro time, as each nation/god takes turns moving against the others. Example: I post as God X, of Tribe Y. I start my post with a viewpoint from the diety, to give context and motive, and then trickle down through the post from the viewpoints of tribal leaders, down to the viewpoints of a few ground-level characters, to let the other players know what is going on in my society, and how the rest of the world will be effected. Once the rotation of posts is completed, time can jump forward, and we can update again with the progress our society has made. If we want to do direct character to character interactions as well (especially in the cases of any drifters we have in the mix), those can either be addressed in the macro post, or in separate threads that we can tag to specify where they fit in the greater Paidia timeline. Anyways, just an idea of how to liven things up a bit, since you seem to be having some troubles. Without further ado, here are my character ideas The GoddessName: Nautake (NAW-tah-kee) - Goddess of WaterMajor Attribute: Water in all its forms (duh). Minor Attributes: Chaos, strife, deception, transformation, healing.Character: Nautake, Goddess of Water, is one of the oldest and proudest of Paidian (sp?) deities. She has survived as long as she has by constantly adapting to new situations as they arise, and by playing her many enemies among the other gods against one another. She is jealous with her power, and bequeaths it to her followers sparingly, usually only in exchange for some show of favour, but will waste no expense in protecting her holdings from outside interference. Her primary weakness is her ever-changing mercurial nature. She lacks the consistency of some of her peers, and is easily distracted by idle fancies or amusements. She is prone to developing crushes on different individuals in her tribe, and stalking them, either as an avatar, or through her Prophet. The Moon Goddess is Nautake's greatest enemy, and one of the only other dieties she comes close to fearing. Nautakite legends say that Nautake once fell in love with the Moon Goddess, who was her dearest friend among the gods at the time, and that there was a great betrayal, resulting in a lessening of Nautake's power, and the Moon's ability to push and pull on the tides. Whether or not this legend bears any truth is unclear. All that is known for certain is that the peoples of the Moon and Water Goddesses were once allies, but now are bitter enemies. The MagicGenerally: The Nautakites, like the other people of Paidia, all have the innate potential to access to power of their deity. However, because of how jealously Nautake guards her power, the amount most citizens can exercise their potential is limited. Performing Nautakite magic requires the practitioner to first garner favour with the Goddess, usually through performing ceremonies or sacrifices that are pleasing to Nautake, or through some act of service to their nation. This favour can then be exchanged by the citizen for a boon from Nautake, that takes the form of some exercise of magic. The more favour the person possesses, the more likely Nautake will respond in a timely manner, even if the person is only offering a fraction of their total favour in exchange for the proposed boon. Those with less favour have a tendency to be ignored or forgotten, and would be well advised not to depend on their goddess in dire situations, especially if far from home. Favour has become the main form of currency within the Nautakite homeland, and every Nautakite has the innate ability to transfer favour from person to person, as long as both parties are followers of Nautake. Favour is transfered through an exchange of fluids, usually involving the gifting party drinking water, then spitting it back into the cup for the receiving party to drink, or through a full-mouthed kiss between the parties. These practices, for obvious reasons, can be disturbing to people of other cultures. However, the transactional purpose of the kiss has removed any association of romance from the gesture for the Nautakite people. Favour is passed through reincarnation, meaning many of the wealthiest citizens are in their later lifetimes. Nautake grants her followers five distinct abilities (listed below). An individual practitioner's power with any of these abilities varies depending on their own innate potential/talent, how much favour they possess, and on the whims of the Goddess herself. Scrying - In exchange for favour, a follower of Nautake can gaze into any still water surface, and see out of another still water surface (MILD SPOILER - similar to what Regalia does in Firefight - END OF MILD SPOILER). The farther the distance, the value of the event being observed, and the knowledge of the party using the magic all will effect how much favour this boon will cost. Travel - When touching water, Nautakites can exchange favour to travel anywhere that the water they in contact with touches. The person's knowledge of the place they wish to go, the distance, and whether or not they are going with or against a current affects how much favour the boon will cost. Transformation - Unlike the Ocean and River gods Nautake defeated in her 'youth', Nautake's power extends over water in all its forms, including the water that most living things are composed of. In exchange for the favour of the Goddess, practitioners can shape shift by dunking themselves under water and resurfacing transformed. The transformative potential is limited to parts of the body with high water content, such as skin, cartilage, fat, blood, and muscle. Bone structure, hair length or colour, nails, and teeth, cannot be changed. Complexion, muscle and fat distributions, and the shape of one's nose or ears, can. This ability is used to great effect by Nautakite spies and merchants travelling the world to blend in with surrounding populations. This power is also limited in that the overall mass of a person cannot be changed, and any transformation can be washed away with water. Wealthy Nautakites in some factions who use this power for fashion purposes (seen as a waste of favour to some) will often choose to wash themselves with sand or oil to avoid having to re-do their transformation. In rare circumstances, more permanent transformations can be granted by the goddess. The more dramatic the transformation, the more it costs. Healing - The healer submerges the patient in water, expends their favour, and then sets to work. This method of healing works great on surface wounds, including both burns and lacerations. It also works well for strengthening muscles that have been weakened by extended periods of inactivity or injury, and on milder injuries such as sprained or pulled muscles. It does not work on broken bones, serious internal injuries, permanent disabilities, or on sickness (think similar to how the healing on Avatar: The Last Airbender works). Obviously, the more severe the injury, the more favour it costs to heal it, however the knowledge of the healer has of the human body can lessen the cost, which is why people often go to professional healers and doctors, rather than try to heal themselves. Patients often reimburse the favour their healer expended after the session. Water Manipulation - Exactly what it sounds like. The strongest and only offensive power Nautake chooses to grant to her followers, this ability is granted only rarely to the most powerful Nautakites. Usually it's use is reserved to the current Prophet for the purpose of defending the homeland from invaders, in which case the current prophet draws forth his or her stored power to unleash devastation on the would be-attackers, dragging their ships to the bottom of the ocean. Note: Water manipulation is slow, and is used on an 'act by act' basis. Basically you ask the Goddess to do X with the water, and if your request in granted, X happens. You don't get the ability to control all water with your mind however you want. If you want to continue manipulating water after event X has occurred, you need to make another request. GeologyThe Nautakites live on a group of islands just off the coast, near to the mouth of the continent's major river. A single large island, built on top of a coral reef, shields the others, creating a shallow sea between it and the continent. The capital Nautakite city is located on the largest of the islands, and the rest are mostly taken up by small villages, individual farms, and watery fields where Nautakite workers farm their prized rainbow rice, a unique commodity gifted to them by the Goddess. Rainbow rice is a stable of Nautakite diet, and can also be used to make a variety of vibrant dyes, making it a prime commodity, and contributing to the great wealth of the Nautakite society. Narrow bridges and ferry lines connect the islands to one another. The Nautakites also control two trading cities on the coast of the main continent, each located on either side of the river, joined by an impressive bridge. Their control of the river mouth has allowed them to become a trading super-power, contributing to their wealth and affluence. PoliticsThe Nautakites are divided into distinct tiers and classes which determine social rank. Their government is a Theocracy, ruled by a prophet who is advised by the leaders of five different factions. Each faction has its own distinct political agenda and value system. The membership of each faction is constantly changing, as members of different tiers change their loyalties. Members of each tier may only 'vote for' or choose to support a member of their own tier, or of the tier above (ex: a tenth tier would choose to be under the authority of either another tenth tier or of a ninth tier person). Mobility from tier to tier is limited, and you are only able to move up by achieving more support than the most lowly ranked person of the tier above you (so if 10th tier X gets 20 10th tier followers, and 9th tier Y only has 19 10th tier followers, then X would move up and Y would move down). Followers of higher tiers are worth more than followers of lower tiers for this purpose. Eventually, every citizen is connected through this chain of command to the five members of the first tier, who are the leaders of the five factions, and advisers of the prophet. Each day, the five members of the first tier are given a chance to argue their case before the prophet. The amount of time each gets is determined by different factors every day, depending on the percentage of the general population supporting their faction, the overall average class of their faction, or the overall amount of favour with the Goddess their faction possesses. No matter which criteria is used, superior numbers usually guarantee greater opportunities to influence the Prophet. The prophet is chosen by the Goddess at first birth, usually from within the families of the five members of the first tier, and retains the position through all five lifetimes. As prophets generally lead pampered lives and are well taken care of, both by their people, and by the Goddess, they often live above average lifetimes. The prophet almost always has impressive innate potential for using the Goddess's power, and upon assuming office inherits the state's supply of favour, a vast supply that is meant to be saved and only used to defend the homeland from invaders. This stash of favour is constantly growing, as favour is donated up the chain of command. In some circumstances, donating favour to the prophet can actually garner a person more favour from the Goddess. In between prophets (or between the time one prophet dies and reaches maturity in the next lifetime), the nation is governed by the first tier person who controls the strongest faction (in terms of overall numbers). The constant jockeying for position and power can mean that the these short periods are marked by chaos and unrest in the homeland, and prophets often have to struggle to re-assume power and settle things down upon reaching assuming or re-assuming their office. A prophet's first and final lifetime are also usually more eventful, as the rest of the population either adjust to a new rule, or compete for prestige as an old one nears its end. In order to reclaim his or her position, a prophet must demonstrate knowledge from her or his previous lives. It is not uncommon for members of the first tier to try to train false prophets in the interest of putting a puppet on the throne, especially when the prophet is reborn in a lower tier. [ASIDE: Sorry, that section didn't really flow very well. I might edit it some day. Let me know if any clarifications are needed, I'm enjoying world-building ] Characters:I plan to play the Goddess Nautake, as well as two other characters. The first, Mercutia, is the current prophet, and will likely be more of a secondary character or NPC. The second, [iNSERT NAME HERE], will be my main character, Mercutia's wayward genetic older brother, who left his homeland after becoming fed up with the constant scheming and politicking that governed his younger sister's life. This character is in his first life, and currently is blessed (or cursed?) with the affections of Nautake herself, and so he finds himself on the run both from the Goddess and from his people. MercutiaPersonality: Mercutia is a strong, determined woman, with a strict moral code. She likes rules that make sense, and acts with care in precision in all facets of her life. She has spent all her lifetimes surrounded in politics, and has become adept at the manipulation and subterfuge that is required to protect her people, both from outside threats, and from themselves. She is very demanding of herself, and has difficulty dealing with imperfections. She also struggles with the fact that all of her lives have belonged to the Goddess, leading her to constantly question her identity, wondering how much is her and how much has been warped and shaped by Nautake. She is prone to day dreaming about what her life might have been, had the Goddess not chosen her. [i'll probably flesh out more of her personality later, for now, I'm getting tired] History: Mercutia is one of the greatest prophets in Nautikite history. Unlike most prophets, she was first born to parents exceedingly low class, and had to work her way up in her youth before claiming her place as Prophet of Naukate, Ruler of the Islands. It was also during this first life that she utilized the power of the Goddess to repel the largest invasion the Nautakites had faced in centuries, becoming a hero to her people. Her second and third lifetimes were characterized as times of peace and prosperity for her people, and she enjoyed unparalleled popularity. All three of these early lifetimes lasted for over a hundred years, which was an indication, in the eyes of her people, of the Goddess's favour. Her fourth lifetime was less ideal. After starting out well, social unrest fell upon the capital and the two trading cities, and the lower classes threatened to rebel. Despite these hardships, Mercutia persevered, ruling with grace and wisdom until her death, at the disappointing age of 89. As she enters the 24th year of her fifth and final lifetime, Mercutia has already faced her share of struggles. Her (relatively) early death was seen as a sign that she was not as worthy of the Goddess's favour as she had once been. It had not helped her that she had been reborn into the lowest class for the first time since her first life. By the time she had turned 18, all five factions had already put forward false prophets who they had endowed with immense amounts of favour to mimic to the Prophet's power, trained to think and act like her, and tutored to remember every minute detail of her past lives. Once again, Mercutia had persevered, moving up the ranks until she could challenge her opponents directly, proving them false one by one, until finally she was able to claim the throne for herself once again. The factions, however, remain rebellious, already preparing for her death when a new Prophet will be chosen by the Goddess. Mercutia is estranged from her brother. The two grew up as orphans on the streets. While Mercutia realized her identity at an early age, at first her brother did not believe her, causing tension between the two. When he realized she was telling the truth, he became her staunch supporter in her rise to the top. As time passed, however, Mercutia's brother began to grow sick of the constant political squabbling that surrounded the woman he saw as his baby sister. Shortly after she attained her position, he left, preferring the peace and quiet of solitude to the clamor of the Nautakite court. RP Sample: Coming soon... Blaze1616 he/him Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Alright, I've finally settled on the edits to my characters. It doesn't really cause any significant changes. I'll get to that in a minute though. First, I want to say that we need folks to post! It's two days shy of a full month, and I want to avoid double posting. Second, as far as Newan's character is concerned, I like the idea of Voidus picking her up. That way Winter isn't posting both sides of the tribal conflict. Third, I think Comatose is right, we need some sort of plot to pull us together beyond the simple tribe v tribe. Obviously this becomes something that Mrs. Voidus has complete veto powers over. One idea that came to my head was to have a god or goddess of reincarnation. Those belonging to his/her tribe would have extra lives (6-10) rather than the base 5, and would have the ability to drain lives from others. If I were creating the tribe I'd make it so the members had a default 5, and gained more by stealing them. I'd also give them the power of Fast Development, causing members to reach adulthood very quickly (1-5 years) rather than the norm for humans of ~20 years. Such a tribe would be incredibly antagonistic to all of Paidia, as it would threaten the culture and lifestyle of almost every tribe. The Fast Development would also allow antagonists to return with relatively few and small time jumps. All right, below are the characters I've updated. For completion sake, here's a link to my post with the other two characters of mine. Kantern Umbra Name: Kantern Umbra Species: Human Sex: Male Role: Major POV Age: 27 Incarnation: 4 Tribe: Venenum-Umbra Powers: Poison Immunity, Poison Manipulation, Stealth Enhancement, Dark Manipulation Poison Immunity: The individual is immune to all poisons and toxins. They show no symptoms, and suffer no consequence. This does not mean the individual cannot carry a poison within themselves. Poison Manipulation: The individual can cultivate poisons and toxins. This ability is “additive,” meaning that two individuals of equal skill can cultivate a poison in half the time that one individual could. This ability also allows the practitioner to create antidotes to poisons and toxins, as well as allowing them to cultivate and manipulate the poisons within their own body. Stealth Enhancement: The individual’s abilities to sneak and perform stealthy maneuvers is enhanced. This includes increased balance, increased finesse, and the ability to move silently. Details: Kantern is the symbol of unity between the Venenum and Umbra tribes; the son of the two tribe leaders. His father was the chief shaman of the Umbra tribe, worshippers of the god of darkness beneath Paidiá’s Teeth, Tenebris. His mother was the Mistress of the god of poison of the western hills, Venen, and therefore leader of the Venenum tribe. As such, he was the first to be born with powers of both Tenebris and Venen. In addition, the combination of followers has boosted the powers of the two gods, making Kantern the most powerful individual in the tribe. He is now a fourth-born, and gearing up to take the mantle of tribe leader once again, until his father is of age in his fifth life, as his father is reaching the end of his fourth life. Kantern serves as the head of the Sicariorum, a group of members of the tribe with powers from both gods, who are assassins for hire. Using their Tenebris powers for stealth and their Venen powers as a weapon, the Sicariorum make perfect assassins. This was the gods’ original intent when merging their tribes; to carve a niche that will serve as protection against other tribes that might want to overtake them. Gwenwyn Inficio Name: Gwenwyn Inficio Nickname: Gwen Species: Human Sex: Female Role: NPC/Minor POV Age: 16 Incarnation: 5 Tribe: Venenum-Umbra Powers: Poison Immunity, Poison Manipulation Poison Immunity: The individual is immune to all poisons and toxins. They show no symptoms, and suffer no consequence. This does not mean the individual cannot carry a poison within themselves. Poison Manipulation: The individual can cultivate poisons and toxins. This ability is “additive”, meaning that two individuals can cultivate a poison in half the time that one individual could. This ability also allows the practitioner to create antidotes specifically to poisons, as well as allowing them to cultivate the poisons within their own body. Details: Gwenwyn is the Mistress of Venen, god of poison of the western hills. As Mistress, she was chosen at birth by Venen to fulfill said role, in which she becomes not only leader of the tribe upon reaching adulthood each incarnation, but also speaks with Venen directly. The Mistress is to never marry, unless instructed to do so by Venen. Gwen eternally married Hostislevis Umbra when Venen ordered her to, effectively merging the Venenum and Umbra tribes. Now Gwen, as Mistress, serves as second in command of the tribe, with the Tenebris’s lead shaman serving as tribe leader. She is also Kantern’s mother. Gwen is currently a fifth-born, having suffered an early fourth-death from an accident. Being 16 years of age in her fifth-life, she will soon pass on the post of Mistress to a newborn chosen by Venen. Once that first-born is trained to serve as Mistress, Gwen will relinquish the title. Hostislevis Umbra Name: Hostislevis Umbra Nickname: Levis Species: Human Sex: Male Role: NPC/Minor POV Age: 62 Incarnation: 4 Tribe: Venenum-Umbra Powers: Stealth Enhancement, Dark Manipulation Stealth Enhancement: The individual’s abilities to sneak and perform stealthy maneuvers is enhanced. Details: Hostislevis is the leader of the Venenum-Umbra tribe, and Tenebris’s lead shaman. Levis was informed one day after becoming head shaman that he was to join the Umbra and Venenum tribes by eternally marrying Gwenwyn, Mistress of Venen. They later had a child, Kantern, who takes Levis’s place during his reincarnation period before adulthood. Other NPCs Name: Tenebris, god of darkness beneath Paidiá’s Teeth Species: God Sex: Male Name: Venen, god of poison of the western hills Species: God Sex: Male 2
Voidus Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Yes, it would actually be very helpful. I'd PM Newan first, though. I PM'd him a while ago and he said he was fine with someone taking over his character, I'll try to get a post up soonish
Voidus Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 So Winter I'm trying to write my first post and I'm torn between using the character that Newan came up with or making one of my own but in the same position, did you have any ideas for interactions between characters that might influence things?

None of the posts in the game so far have mentioned Newan's character. Winter's post comes closest, but he merely references the tribe, so if you were to make a new character within Newan's tribe, effectively adopting it as your own, there should be no in-game issues.

Other NPCs Name: Tenebris, god of darkness beneath Paidiá’s Teeth Species: God Sex: Male Name: Venen, god of poison of the western hills Species: God Sex: Male All your characters are great, and I can't wait to read them. I also agree that we need a central theme, but not one God has the power by themselves to give their tribe more than the designated reincarnations, and no two or more Gods would grant it because the people would have too much power and knowledge and could pose a threat to the Gods, or so the Gods have agreed. However, a central theme could be that a tribe (maybe the life or death tribe) has come to believe that they can gain more re-incarnations through wiping out all competition relentlessly, and maybe they start using (almost) universally sacrilegious behavior to do so such as using the dead of their opponents fresh and not so fresh from the grave. The God of this tribe would allow its people to think this was true because she is greedy, and does not believe that any moral ideals are related to pure life/ death, so she just lets her people get on with it so long as not too many of her people die. We could have a player pick up this tribe, and agree in the questions thread what there general movements across the continents are so we each have a chance to interact with the aggressors and defend against them or form alliances.
Voidus Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I may switch viewpoints between a few different Zericians since Irina is relatively unimportant to the tribe as a whole for now but she's the current taskmistress over the slaves so I thought she'd be a good character for interactions with Chyra.
Kobold King he/him Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I confess I don't remember. Did we decide on which tribe is the closest to the chiskreven? I've got the first slice-of-life chiskreven scene outlined, and I'll sit down and write it either today or in the next couple of days. 1
Mrs. Voidus she/her Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 I confess I don't remember. Did we decide on which tribe is the closest to the chiskreven? I've got the first slice-of-life chiskreven scene outlined, and I'll sit down and write it either today or in the next couple of days. I don't think any one has claimed that part of the map so go ahead and make up whomever you want! Nice post. Since I have a long car ride ahead of me, I might even get up a response post today. Awesome! I look forward to reading it
