The battle for Scadrial

I was just wondering if we have any kind of canonical/fanonical name for the events of book 3, the Koloss war? The Battle for Scadrial and the fight with Ruin are all I could think of but I think it would be useful for the wiki, I tend to reference the Skaa rebellion and the siege of luthadel a lot.

EDIT: I just remembered the Siege of Fadrex but I still think that something for the fight against Ruin would be useful

I had thought we were going to move the Battle for Scadrial article into the Final Ascension article (the latter being a canonical term).

I think that is what we ended up deciding, since we didn't like the term "The Battle for Scadrial" anyway. The conflict at the Pits and the Final Ascension were closely tied enough that we made them one event. I think what Voidus is getting at is a name for the whole conflict between the New Empire and the forces of Ruin. We haven't made a term for that. I don't know whether or not we should either. It could be useful sometimes, but I also have no love for non-canonical terms. I think the name The Atium War(s) was brought up for an idea for that as well. I'm not loving The Battle for Scadrial as the name for the whole war though. It was more then one battle, we know of at least three.

I don't know that members of 17th Shard should be defining a term for the conflict between the New Empire and Ruin unless only to define it amongst ourselves. Ultimately, I think such a definition is the author's prerogative. While it might be useful amongst us, I don't like non-canonical terms either. (I'm definitely a canonical geek even if I haven't done an extensive Compendium of Key Terminology for any other of Brandon's series beyond The Stormlight Archive's, The Way of Kings.) I thought this first novel in his epic series was particularly important ... so I geeked out on it.

If there exists canonical terminology, we will always use it. However, there sometimes exist terms which are necessary, and are not canonical. The big example would be the term "Shardholders", for people who hold Shards of Adonalsium. Brandon does not like the term: he says that when someone takes up a Shard, they become the Shard. He also doesn't like it because he thinks it would be confused with Shardbearer. But, there exist times for us--as fans--make theories that discuss the people, separate from the Shard themselves. And it is much preferable to choose Shardholder instead of using Shardbearer for both Shards of Adonalsium and Shardblades/plate. So that's an example of necessary, non-canonical terminology.

Thing is, in Mistborn, it is a more faster paced series than Stormlight. There are a lot more names for events and such in Stormlight--vastly more.

So there may not be a canonical term for a term we need. And indeed, this is exclusively for the purposes of 17th Shard or the Coppermind. On the Coppermind, we at least need to decide on these standards so the wiki is logical. It doesn't really matter what other fans call it.
