maniacmggee Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the Cosmere. I started with The Stormlight Archives and after reading WoK, I waited for WoR. After loving that, I craved more and eventually found out that Many of his books were at least somewhat connected. Just finished Elantris and the short story after it. Moving on to Mistborn. And finally, food for thought, I wonder what Sanderson could do with a tropical/amazonian-esque environment paired with one of his always amazing magic systems? Thanks everyone! -Mggee 5

Thanks everyone! -Mggee He's already made a semi-amazonian/tropical type story, it's called Sixth of the Dusk, while it may be a short story it's pretty awesome (as with all of Brandons work). Welcome to 17th Shard!
RawToast225 he/him Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Welcome! Don't take cookies. Ever. What's your favourite book of his you've read so far?
Iredomi Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 warbreaker is kind set in tropical setting. Sort of. Welcome!
Voidus Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Welcome to the 17th Shard, home of the awesome, the insane and the awesomely insane.Ignore the cookie haters and partake in a Dark Alley brand cookie and an upvote. 1
maniacmggee Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 So far Words of Radiance is my favorite. Like I said, still relatively new. As far as the short story with an amazonian-esque thing I will have to read it. I will also read Warbreaker but that will have to come later because I am going to go straight thru the Cosmere first and I believe warbreaker is external? Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
Phin he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Welcome, from a fellow NooB. I am not sure what the deal with the cookies is, but be careful. 1
platy21 he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Warbreaker is included in the Cosmere, and it's connection to WoR is pretty cool.
Voidus Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Warbreaker is cosmere, I'd definitely recommend reading it if you've finished words of Radiance, there's some easter eggs in there that you might notice
Quiver he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Warbreaker is a tropical setting, but admittedly it doesn't come into play very often. Still, that doesn't matter because, in my opinion, it is the best cosmere book. ...Though for maximum effect, I recommend reading it after you finish the Mistborn trilogy. For... reasons. Anyway, welcome! 1

Quiver he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Honestly, I'm the same. It's a testament to Brandon's world building, I guess; the Austre monks kind of remind me of European monks, the Court of the Returned is like the greek roman pantheon, the Lifeless are sort of like jewish Golems, the tears of Edgil means the area is (as Brandon notes in his annotations) the end of the "Silk Road" (meaning asia)... and yet the area is actually a tropical amazon. And it still makes sense, despite those other influences.
maniacmggee Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Excellent. I will definitely read Warbreaker after the Mistborn Trilogy. Cannot wait. While I love GRRM and the Song of Ice and Fire, Sanderson writes like a machine and for those of us who read books like crack, he is incredibly satisfying. Can't wait to read more of his stuff. Thanks everybody!
maniacmggee Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Hey guys! I've been silent since my last post. I've finally finished the Mistborn series, took me about a month, ugh! Moving onto Warbreaker in the next five minutes! Any suggestions on parts of the forum I should check out? Again, I've now read Elantris, Mistborn (1st trilogy), WoK and WoR. Thanks guys!
Blaze1616 he/him Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Well, considering Warbreaker is your only unread Cosmere world, you can go just about anywhere on the site. I'd still caution much browsing because Warbreaker's magic system is very encompassing (for lack of a better word) and seems to pop up in a lot of discussions. Also you still won't fully understand some of the common jokes that get said casually until you get most of the way through Warbreaker. Honestly, in terms of partaking in the forums, Warbreaker would be the first/fourth book you should have read (either before or after Mistborn), followed by the Stormlight Archive, then Elantris. Regardless, I hope you enjoy Warbreaker. It's my favorite Cosmere novel!
