marianmi
If you are on that line of thinking, You might also look up the symbol(and accompanying theory that seems ubiquitous to the maps in the books Thx, I have the ebook and did not know about that. Anyhow, dunno if that's related to what I was saying... I guess the question I'm asking is what do the parshendi and the ghostblood want with maps... the location of the honour blades? or the shard pool? Riddlesinthedark he/him
Thx, I have the ebook and did not know about that. Anyhow, dunno if that's related to what I was saying... I guess the question I'm asking is what do the parshendi and the ghostblood want with maps... the location of the honour blades? or the shard pool? I'm spoilering this, unless you have finished, but BS's website has all the interior pictures: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/book/The-Way-of-Kings/page/63/The-Way-of-Kings-Interior-Illustrations The spoiler is also rather image heavy, and will keep the thread neater. The symbol we are talking about is in the lower right hand corner here, on the ancient world map. Found also, here, on the current world map, in the left hand corner inside the compass And here, were it represents the chaos of the shattered plains on the mid right And here under the arena*, iirc, quite smudged though, in the upper left corner Here in in the middle of the left, surrounded by what I think are the 10 High houses' symbols. Most peculiarly, it shows up in Kharbanth, like a sunburst behind the Conclave... And to trump all that peculiarity, here it is in the Shadesmar map, on the upper arm of the lower Sea of Lost Lights Notice though, iirc, that it doesn't show on the map made by Navani or the Anonymous Alethi scholar If its a cartography symbol, why doesn't it show on the map made by learned scribe, Navani? And why on the shadesmar map? Is it connected to the Ghostbloods? Is it Urithiru If its something sinister, just what is it... It kind of looks like the cities drawn here Somewhat like an inverted Vedenar I'm of the opinion that it might be the city symbol of Urithiru. That or just a royal cartography symbol. Peter Ahlstrom(Brandon's assistant) did give that it is not Isakik Shulin's symbol, though, I cannot seem to find the thread. Not quite sure if that was where you were leading with your maps idea, and rather than introduce you to our groupthink, you should continue in your line of thinking, just know what some here have thought on the maps. marianmi
Thx for the pictures. However, this is not what I meant. I actually meant that, in the book, Jasnah said that the first thing the parshendi asked when gavilar made the treaty was to see the alethi maps. Also, when shallan remembers things about her father, she says that he had many weird maps. So it seems to me that both the parshendi and the ghostbloods are looking for <<something>> on the maps. Might be connected with the symbol on brandon's maps, or not. Lightflame he/him
Well, Jasnah seems to be researching Gavilar's death, Voidbringers, and Urithuru. She concludes that the Parshendi are Voidbringers, so that logically brings me to the conclusion that her research into Voidbringers is because she wants to know if her hypothesis has anything to do with Gavilar's death. Urthithuru seems to be a random topic to research, unless it somehow ties into Gavilar's death. Perhaps the maps are the key to Urithuru, which the Ghostbloods and Pashendi are on the hunt for? Maybe Kasbal insisted that Urithuru was just a legend so that he could turn Jasnah away from locating Urithuru, which is the true goal of the Ghostbloods/the hideout of the Ghostbloods? On a less serious note, the water within Selatales looks like a beard. Edited August 15, 2012 by Lightflame
king of nowhere
shouldn't maps be quite easy to get? you go a cartographer and buy them. I doubt the ghostbloods would need to kill someone to get some maps. so those maps probably had something special, which is probably related to urithiru or the shard pool or some stuff like that. As for the parshendi, they probably did not have access to any cartographer, but since they were preparing for war against the alethi, finding maps would be a reasonable preparation. So, I would conclude that parshendi and ghostbloods were looking for different, unrelated things. However I don't trust that conclusion, sanderson is quite prone to the conservaion of detail and so the maps probably have something important. But why can't the ghostbloods just buy them? And if they are looking for one specific old map with particular informations, how can the parshendi ask it to somne totally unrelated person? I don't understand it
Dros
There is definitely something important about these maps. I think combining the information from each map, that might be hidden or perhaps it's hiding in plain sight, will eventually tell us something very important. I just have no idea what that is. There are many theories though. Maybe you'll find a connection.
