Status Updates--Tagging Other Members

This is a very minor question, and one that may not even belong here.

 

I noticed that some status updates around the forum tag other members. Like so:

 

 

Just wondering, is this a forum feature that still works? And if so, how does one go about using it?

Its not tagging, but writing a comment directly on their page

Ah... forgive me if I'm sounding really dense, but how exactly does that work? Is that the same as simply commenting on another member's update?

If you go to someone's profile page and then the 'profile feed' tab there's an option to leave a message.
