WeiryWriter he/him Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Okay so as some of you may know, Worldbuilders is an annual charity drive, started by Pat Rothfuss, that centers around the Science Fiction and Fantasy community. While I was browsing the auction section looking at the Brandon related lots I came across some new information (at least new to me). While both of these items are available in Brandon's store their store pages do not reveal this information. Important bits bolded and italicized Official Jeseh Glyph necklace by Badali Jewelry! Inspired from the pages of The Stormlight Archive™ series by Brandon Sanderson comes the Jeseh™ Glyph Necklace, skillfully handcrafted in yellow bronze. Each Jeseh Glyph is carefully hand finished and individually inspected for the highest quality by the Badali Jewelry artists. The Windrunner™ Necklace is an officially licensed Stormlight Archive replica with Brandon Sanderson. Glyphs are the syntax-free symbolic written language from The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. One of the central rites of the Vorin™ religion is burning prayers which are written in the language of glyphs, then lit on fire. Each glyph is pictorial in nature and symmetrical, symmetry being an important tenet of Vorinism™. Ten specific glyphs are arranged to form the ten points of the Double Eye of the Almighty™, a symbolic representation of the creation of plants and creatures. Each of the ten glyphs are associated with a specific Herald, a servant of the Almighty, and worshiped by followers of the Vorin religion. Each glyph is also associated a gemstone, an essence, a body focus, soulcasting™ property and assigned a primary and secondary divine attribute. The Jeseh glyph is associated with the Herald Jezerezeh'Elin™. The gemstone for Jeseh is Sapphire. Its essence is Zephyr and has a body focus of Inhalation. The soulcasting property for Jeseh are Translucent Gas and Air. Its primary divine attribute is Protection and secondary attribute is Leading. Jeseh is believed to be associated with the Windrunners™, an order of the Knights Radiant™ who used two primary types of Surgebinding™, gravity and atmospheric pressure. The Jeseh pendant is finished with a sapphire blue enamel paint. The pendant measures approximately 43.4 mm (1 3/4") long including the bail, 30.5 mm (just under 1 1/4") at the widest point and 2.4 mm (1/8") thick. The Jeseh Necklace weighs approximately 8.1 grams. Includes a 24" long rhodium plated rope chain. (source) Official Oathbringer Shardblade pendant in sterling silver by Badali Jewelry! Inspired from the pages of The Stormlight Archive™ series by Brandon Sanderson comes the Oathbringer Shardblade™ Pendant. Each Shardblade is skillfully handcrafted one at a time in sterling silver, then carefully hand finished and individually inspected for the highest quality by the Badali Jewelry artists. The Oathbringer Necklace is an officially licensed Stormlight Archive pendant with Brandon Sanderson. According to legend, the Shardblades were first held by the Knights Radiant during the Desolations. They were gifts from their God granted to the Knights to allow them to fight the Voidbringers™. Now, four millennia after the Final Desolation and centuries after the fall of the Knights Radiant, the Shardblades are treasured relics fought for, maintained, and wielded mostly by the nobility of Roshar™. Shardblades are enormous weapons, yet incredibly light to hold. They can easily cut through inanimate objects, but the metal "fuzzes" when passing through living flesh, severing the soul rather than the body. The part of the body cut through instantly dies. Oathbringer is described as six feet long from tip to hilt with a slightly curved blade a hand-span in width. The weapon has wavelike serrations near the hilt and a hook near the tip like a fisherman's. While in Highprince Dalinar Kholin's™ possession, Othbringer's hilt was set with a Heliodor. The Oathbringer pendant is set with a 3mm round synthetic heliodor. The Shardblade necklace measures approximately 52.8 mm (just under 2 1/8") long including the bail, 11.8 mm (just under 1/2") at the widest point and 2.1 mm (just under 1/8") at the thickest point. The Oathbringer Necklace weighs approximately 2.5 grams. The back of the blade is carved out slightly to reduce weight. It comes with a 24" long rhodium plated cable chain. (source) Neither of these are particularly earth-shattering, but I do think they are interesting. Especially the Heliodor bit, since that is the gem of his Order. 9
Shardlet he/him Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I admit some skepticism about any significance of the choice of a heliodor since it was selected either by Dalinar, a previous holder, or the person (or someone connected to the person) who set the gem. I don't see any significance of the choice. To my mind, perhaps subtle foreshadowing. The representation of the double-eye harkening to the creation of plants and animals seems more potent fodder for theorizing/speculating. Nevertheless, good on ya Weiry. Nice grab.
Windrunner he/him Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 The double eye thing is actually mentioned briefly in the Way of Kings, by Shallan, I believe. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.
Oudeis he/him Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) It's mentioned in the Ars Arcanum of Way of Kings, and I believe also Words of Radiance. I think the heliodor bit is new. EDIT: Does each new Bearer need a new gem? Adolin shatters the old one, but admits this was unnecessary. Does he mean the same gem could have been used again, or that the gem could have simply been removed and broken into chips? Edited November 13, 2014 by Outis
WeiryWriter he/him Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 Oh yeah I don't think there is anything going on with the heliodor thing, it's just a neat bit of retroactive foreshadowing. I view it in the same vein as the apothecary paying Kaladin with sapphire mark. And the double-eye thing is mentioned in the Ars Arcanum, must have missed it.
Shaggai Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) Not really on topic, but I just wanted to mention that I absolutely hate those little TM's whenever I see them. Is it impossible for the sellers to just write something along the lines of "All character names, locations, etc. are copyrighted/trademarked" at the bottom? Edited November 15, 2014 by Shaggai
