HeddaMc Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Hi Everyone. I've recently read Mistborn, Way of Kings, and I'm currently reading Words of Radiance. First, I joined this page because I'm tired of FB, IG, etc,. where ego is bigger than content and folks are just mean AF. I found 17th Shard and thought, "Hell yes!" Second, since I'm a noob, I wanted to be able to go more in-depth in a safe environment with folks who are passionate about what they are talking about. Folks like me: super friendly neurodivergents with a love of unloading the tidbits of their special interest. Next, I'm interested in the art--not to create myself, but see what others have done. And last, I'm 47yo single-mom with a 10yo who is very interested in RP. If I can get her into the Cosmere, maybe the RP is something we could do together. It's not really my thing, but I find the Cosmere fascinating, so I could attempt RP with her to have a shared activity. --HeddaMc 4
GG0z He/Him Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Hi! You came to the exact right place for a loving and supportive community! in my opinion, I would say that ten years old is a bit too young to start reading Cosmere, but go ahead and prove me wrong! Stormlight Archive is probably the most interesting to RP, but you can do other things as well, as nothing is stopping yoi
Factor She/Her Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Hello! Congrats, you just found the nicest existing forum! This place is definitely for you! And the art is awesome! If you feel she’s mature enough for the Cosmere, their RPs can be a great way to start. Plus there’s all sorts of RP here and low-pressure ways to learn!
Through the Living Hopper He/Him Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Welcome to the Shard! You've arrived at the best place on the Internet, filled with the best people and the best desserts! Here are a couple of tips to help you settle in to your new place as a cog in the Grand Apparatus that is the Shard! 1. Join S(anderson) E(limination) (a fun Sanderson roleplay mafia game). 2. Familiarize yourself with the most important forums: SE, Cosmere Q&A, and SE. 3. Tell us exactly which books you have and haven't read (this helps us avoid spoilers) 4. HAVE FUN! Make friends! 5. Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler The more people you interact with, the more people it's acceptable for you to follow, and then those people will feel obliged to follow you. And then you get rep and cool yellow words under your name. After the stock welcome, Welcome! We're so glad do have you! The Shard is genuinely amazing (you'd be hard-pressed to find a more positive place on the Internet)! However, there is one cold-hearted, murdering Arctic animal you really need to watch out for. WELCOME!

There aren't any content problems - the problem would be interest and comprehension. But you should just try it and see how it goes.

It is a wonderful place here, finding a neurotypical person is like finding a needle in a haystack. And it is hard to find someone mean, and even if you do, the mods will crash down upon them like Zeus realizing someone stabbed one of his many many many many many many many children. (God, I love greek mythology) The cosmere is a beautiful place ripe for theorizing. I won't be the person to break down how the subforums work, but I find them to be fairly self-explanatory. Many of us here are super-science-nerds who love how easily investiture fits into normal laws of matter. And the art here is amazing. We have many talented artists, not all of them arting the cosmere, and many talented poets and writers too! I would definitely reccomend the RPs. They are quite fun, and not all of them are about the cosmere! I think there is a star wars one happening right now, and plenty which are entirely original!

This is a really relaxed and fun community, the worst it gets here is some emotional venting or adolescent humor here or there in the corners. There’s not enough art here- but what there is is excellent, worth your time. There’s really only a few RPs that last more than a few weeks- The Longest Thread, Alleyverse, and Hunger Games afaik. TLT is a bit of a sandbox with more lore than we know what to do with, Hunger Games I believe is a game that occurs over a longer period of time regularly (i have no idea) and Alleyverse is a larger more standard RP set across the Cosmere. Before you leave, I am obligated to ask- what’s your favorite ability from the Cosmere so far- metal to burn or surge or something else? Enjoy your stay!

Welcome to the shard! Tip for getting people into cosmere: Have them read a noncosmere Brandon book (like reckoners or Frugal wizard), OR have them read Mistborn. Starting with Stormlight is intimidating due to the sheer size of those wonderful books.
