Willshaper42 He/Him Posted April 1 Posted April 1 (edited) If one could theoretically bond 10 spren from all of the orders, would they have access to all the surges and therefore near complete control of life? (A member of my family said that the 10 surges were the basic parts of life and without one the cosmere couldn't operate) If so, when they swear an ideal, can they use the investiture provided from the mini perpendicularity to power any of the surges? (My opinion is yes) Could they also then use bondsmithing to keep that perpendicularity open for longer than normal, gaining even more investiture? How would the different surges react with the bondsmith powers? Would they work to form more complicated reactions as seen from Shallan and Dalinar in Rhythm Of War? If so, what would they be and could they form combinations with powers other than the Bondsmith ones? Could, for but one of many examples, an Elscaller bond a Lightspren and have enhanced Transportation surges? Could they bond a Peakspren and get all of those surges with some mixed abilities, such as the windrunner reverse lashing? I'd like your thoughts please, because I don't have many good ideas. Realistically you only need to bond 5 spren to get all 10 surges, but some orders may have slightly different surges for different reasons. 39 minutes ago, Willshaper42 said: therefore near complete control of life? Not sure where this came from. Surges are good, but don't make someone omnipotent. Even Shards have limits. 49 minutes ago, Willshaper42 said: If so, when they swear an ideal, can they use the investiture provided from the mini perpendicularity to power any of the surges? Stormlight is Stormlight. You can use it for all of them regardless of the Oath sworn. However, it might be that only certain orders get Stormlight then they swear an oath. Not sure, but doesn't affect the answer too much. 51 minutes ago, Willshaper42 said: Could they also then use bondsmithing to keep that perpendicularity open for longer than normal, gaining even more investiture? Bondsmiths and perpendicularities are unclear right now, as Dalinar is an exception it seems with summoning Honor's perpendicularity, and Ishar summoned one other than Honor's. However, A Bondsmith may be able to increase the amount of Stormlight gained by increasing connection to the SR. 53 minutes ago, Willshaper42 said: How would the different surges react with the bondsmith powers? Shallan's Lightweaving didn't require a drawing because Dalinar provided a Connection. The Elsegate that brought humans to Roshar might have involved a Bondsmith, but I don't remember. Odds are other Orders get benefits from a Bondsmith. 56 minutes ago, Willshaper42 said: could they form combinations with powers other than the Bondsmith ones? As of right now, we don't know what happens if your Orders share a Surge. I would bet you would have a greater affinity for that surge. The Reverse Lashing is called a Resonance, and that is because the two powers react in some way that produces another effect. From the Resonance page on the Coppermind: Spoiler An individual with many powers, such as a Mistborn or Full Feruchemist, may lose this added effect.[6] With so many powers, the individual powers effectively wash out any resonance. It is still possible for such people to have a resonance, but it would be much less pronounced.[7] Temporarily gaining additional powers, such as from the Bands of Mourning, would not deprive someone of a resonance they previously had. Someone with one power who began using the Bands of Mourning might develop a resonance between their original power and the Bands.[5] It is possible for a Surgebinder with multiple Honorblades/Nahel bonds to develop new abilities and resonances between surges that aren't normally combined.[8] Our hypothetical super-Radiant may develop Resonances, but the strength may be weakened by the amount of Investiture that they hold. It is equally likely that they develop entirely new Resonances that other people couldn't get. Hope this helps. 2

Just so you know, double posting is generally not allowed. If you want to add to an old post, you can edit it by clicking the three dots at the top right of your post. They are fundamental forces, but having access to them all doesn't let the user do anything. There are still rules that they must follow, regardless of their power level. 1
