Hi everyone, I’m Jo. I started reading Brandon Sanderson books 8(?) years ago when a friend loaned The Final Empire to my husband. I made the mistake of casually picking it up before he finished it. Over the next few days I was in the unenviable position of trying to finish my first sanderlanche while someone else had first dibs on the book!

I’ve read almost all currently released Cosmere books but very little non Cosmere Sanderson. I’ve never read Dragonsteel Prime, White Sand, or The Lost Tales. I’ve only skimmed Way of Kings prime, and read everything else unless I’ve missed something again! The chapters of White Sand in Arcanum Unbounded are great, but I’ve never made it past the first page of the graphic novel.

When I’m not rereading the Way of Kings I enjoy reading Jane Austen, puzzles, bird watching and visiting parks with my two young sons.

I found this community through the 17th Shard podcasts on YouTube. You all seem cool so I thought I’d join!

Welcome to the Shard!

What's your favourite Cosmere book? What's you favourite non-Cosmere book? If you were the Vessel for a Shard, which Shard would you be and why?

YOOOO

Another stranger to our tight-knit group of random internet weirdos who definitely shouldn't trust one another because no one knows anyone and any random person could very easily be a terrible person, but we still choose to trust each other out of the pure goodness of our heart and belief in possible reprimanding!

Anyway-Sorry that got really philosophical, fast.

Do you like Wayne? Do you like Dragons? What is your favorite compounding and non-compounding twinborn combos? What Radiant Order's Ideal resonates the most with you? What Order's surges do you like the most?

And I would definitely recommend reading Dragonsteel Prime and Aether of Night. I had a lot of fun with those 2, so as long as you don't hate Ebooks that much, they should be fine. They are in a Shrodingers-Canon state, so they are both entirely cosmere canon and in no way, shape, nor form, canon to the cosmere at all.

Thanks!

My favorite Cosmere book is Way of Kings. It introduces the world so magnificently. The first time I read it I fell in love with the characters and the end blew my mind. My favorite non-Cosmere is Infinitely Blade: Redemption.

I would like to say Cultivation, but the real answer is probably Preservation. I hate change haha.

Honestly, excellent breakdown down of the world of internet in which we live. Community online is a different kind of thing.

-I spent most of the books feeling indifferent towards Wayne. I don’t resonate with his sense of humor, but he’s a sympathetic character. Before the end of the series I grew to really like him.
-I love dragons!
-This is a hot take, but I don’t like the concept of twin-born. I don’t deny that it makes sense, and that it’s good storytelling BUT I like my characters over powered. In all the action scenes I wanted a mistborn to come careening into the fray. Because of this admittedly shallow perspective I’ve put no thought into what I would like to combine. It’s a cool question. I’ll have to spend some more time thinking about that. My only answer now is that the gold combination is pretty epic. That’s the whole overpowered preference coming through again.
-The Edgedancer ideal resonates the most with me. I like the Windrunner’s surges the most.

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll have to check those out. I love the idea of shrodingers-canon. Fabulous.

Hello and welcome to the shard!

I am ACE, formerly FRENZEE but it all changed when the fire nation attacked.

If you could have any cosmere power you have read of, what would it be? (Ex: Windrunner, Steel push, Odium, etc.)

Welcome to the shard! What's your favorite non-Sanderson book or series?
One quick note, double posting twice in a row isn't allowed on the forums per our forum policy, but you can always edit your previous post if needed. No worries at all since you're brand new, but just for future reference. :)

Good question! Windrunner is hard to pass up. The ability to manipulate gravity would be fascinating.

And I can’t figure out how to add another quote in edit, but thanks for the heads up @#1 Taln Fan That’s good to know! My favorite non-Sanderson book is Persuasion by Jane Austen.

Hi! Welcome to the Shard!

I may not have posted except I know how to do so—you gotta copy and paste the quote, usually bringing it down to the “submit reply” whitespace before ctrl-c etc.

What two characters would you most want to brawl to the death? (And why?)

Thanks! This is really helpful.

I would like to see Moash and Taln brawl to the death.

Unfortunately it might also make my list of most unlikely brawls. Moash generally has a good sense of when to exit stage left.

it might work to start a new post and quote a selection/post, the cut it, start the edit and paste.
