What's happening all? New to the forum and just wanted to say hello and also seek some advice.

I was a pretty big Sanderson fan in the late 00s and 10s. Devoured MB Era 1, Elantris, Warbreaker, 1st 2 Stormlight books, the Reckoners and WoT. But when Oathbringer dropped I DNF. If I recall it was somewhere in the journey through Shadesmar. Anyway, I put it on my "To be Finished" stack and never managed. I tried to get back into it when Rhythms released and again found myself struggling to get through Oathbringer and wound up putting it down again.

I've found myself struggling to reconnect with the love I had for the early works with the newer materials. Barely finished Skyward, DNF Alloy of Law and Frugal Wizard. Re-read MB Era 1, Way of Kings (just finished it again today), Words of Radiance, WoT and Reckoners and found the same love i had again, but I can't seem to connect beyond these.

Anyone else had similar struggles? How did you push through? Should I break up my reads of Stormlight with something like Tress or Sunlit Man? Maybe retreading Way of Kings and Words of Radiance to refresh is a bad idea and I should just grind through Oathbringer, even if I've lost some recollection? I'm no stranger to a book slog (I did read all the WoT), but this has felt different. Like I've lost the enthusiasm which is crazy because I still love those old books even on a 3rd or 4th reading.

Any advice greatly received!

I would reccomend trying something new!

Tress is a fun one, and Yumi is a nice break from the long series's of the cosmere.

I don't have much advice, but if a book doesn't feel right for you, maybe try and take a break, and then revisit it.

Finally getting into Alloy of Law! About halfway done. It hasn't grabbed me the way Mistborn, did but Wayne is keeping me going.

Welcome!

I don't think you can force enthusiasm you aren't feeling, and when you have to dedicate a good chunk of time and attention to reading something you're not excited about it's hard to revive or imitate the excitement. My only suggestion on that is to try audiobook versions of books you're less than thrilled about during regularly available stretches of time-- times like cooking meals, commuting, working out, etc. Multi-tasking that way can reduce the amount of effort you have to invest, and as long as the other activity doesn't demand too much of your attention you can still follow the books. The Cosmere narrators are very good, which helps.
