SheepAreFluffy Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Purely going off the reviews/ratings (out of 5) I left on StoryGraph when I initially read them: Spoiler The Alloy of Law - 2.75 The Bands of Mourning - 3.5 Dawnshard - 4.25 Elantris - 3.25 The Emperor's Soul - 5.0 The Final Empire - 4.0 The Hero of Ages - 4.25 Isles of the Emberdark - 4.0 The Lost Metal - 3.5 Oathbringer Part One - 3.25 Oathbringer Part Two - 4.0 Rhythm of War Part One - 4.0 Rhythm of War Part Two - 4.0 Shadows of Self - 3.5 The Sunlit Man - 4.5 Tress of the Emerald Sea - 4.5 Warbreaker - 3.5 The Way of Kings Part One - 3.25 The Way of Kings Part Two - 3.75 The Well of Ascension - 3.75 White Sand (omnibus) - 3.5 Wind and Truth - 3.75 Words of Radiance Part One - 4.25 Words of Radiance Part Two - 4.5 Yumi and the Nightmare Painter - 4.5 With the benefit of hindsight, I think those are mostly about right. Alloy of Law is definitely my least favourite and The Emperor's Soul is definitely my favourite. Neither of those are in any doubt. The single book that I think I'd change the rating of the most is probably The Sunlit Man. I liked it, but I don't think I liked it that much. Somewhere around 3.75-4.0 is probably a more realistic take on how I feel about it now. Others might get nudged up or down a little bit, but not by that much. 2

Spoiler Elantris: 100 (doubled because my mom likes it) = 200 Mistborn: The Final Empire: 100 (minus Elend) (plus Mennis) = 100 Mistborn: The Well Of Ascension: 100 - (Elend and also Zane) +/- sadness + the hypest that Allomancy ever got to be = 100 +/- sadness Mistborn: The Hero Of Ages: 100+happiness-mademycousincry+/-sadness = 100 +/-sadness Warbreaker: 100-20 (for making me incredibly uncomfortable with Siri and Susebron's situation) + 20 (for Vasher and Denth/Denth's buddies) = 100 The Way Of Kings: 100 (-95 for starting The Stormlight Archive which has been a detriment to the Cosmere, -5 for introducing dirty jokes so I can't recommend the books to my grandma) (+50 for YALB) (doubled back to 100 because my cousin likes it) = 100 Alloy Of Law: 100 (-100 for nerfing Allomancy and Feruchemy into the ground and undermining the original trilogy's ending) (+25 for Marsh) (quadrupled for "magical cowboys vs human traffickers" being, quite possibly, the most awesome premise ever) = 100 HIATUS: 0, much sadness, endless salt, no books. = 0 From here, the base score starts at 50. Words Of Radiance: 50 (+150 for the stick that is a stick) (-5 for starting Moash's relevance as a character outside of Bridge Four) (-150 for making me sad when the Wind's Pleasure gets burned and Yalb's friend's die) (-70 for romance subplots) (+50 for Yalb) (+20 for the climax being hype) (doubled because my cousin likes it) = 90 Shadows Of Self: 50 (+25 for Tensoon) (+70 for that bit where Tensoon is grumpy about Soonie Pups) (-50 for Wax not doing his freaking job and finding the missing ladies so I can sleep at night instead of staying up worrying about them) = 95. EAT IT STORMLIGHT. Bands Of Mourning: 50 (-50 for Wax not doing his freaking job and finding the missing ladies so I can sleep at night instead of staying up worrying about them) (-5 for the South Scadrians giving me hype for the return of Allomancy and Feruchemy to awesomesauce status and then not delivering) (+infinity for that moment when I realized Kelsier, whom I'd mourned all these years, had come back from the dead) (DISQUALIFIED FROM SCORING because it and Shadows Of Self should have been one book) = no score Arcanum Unbounded: 50 (-8 for White Sand and Sixth Of The Dusk making me like things/places and then making me feel weird later when HORRIBLE REALIZATION TIME comes) (+45 for Secret History) (+8 for being multiple standalone shorter stories, giving us something we've desperately needed) = 95 Oathbringer: 50 (-8 for WE CHOSE) (+8 for Rayse being memorable) (-55 for giving us Sja-anat and giving me nightmares forever) (+50 for Yalb) (doubled because my cousin likes it) = 90 HIATUS: 0, much sadness, Moshe Retired. Scores (only regular numbers) arranged in ascending order: -50, 0, 0, 90, 90, 90, 95, 95, 100, 100, 100 ,100, 100, 100, 200 Sum for regular numbers: 1,210 for the 15 books with regular numbers. Overall mean: 1210/15 = 80 and two thirds, for the fifteen books with regular numbers. Overall Median: 95 Most Common Score: 100 Margin of Error/Standard Deviation Of the Mean: approximately 15, unless all the years I spent getting that Stats degree were for nothing and I can no longer eyeball this stuff.
