I am listening through the audiobooks and it is slow going. I beseech you all to show me the most toxic "Oh, Dalinar" that has ever existed. Not an audiobook consumer, so I cannot tell you what they sounded like in Audio, but here are the options in books 1-3: WoK: Spoiler None by Sadeas at all - Ch 22: Quote “And why did you return?” Dalinar asked stiffly. “I was under the impression that you were going to aid the queen in protecting the king’s interests in Alethkar.” “Oh, Dalinar,” Navani said, voice fond. “So stiff, as always. Adolin, dear, how goes courtship?” Dalinar snorted. “He continues to change partners like he’s in a dance that involves particularly quick music.” “Father!” Adolin objected. <snip> The serving girl withdrew. At the end of the table, Elhokar noticed his mother’s actions, but said nothing. One did not reprove Navani Kholin, not even if one were king. “Oh, sit down, Dalinar,” she said, voice growing testy. “We have matters of some moment to discuss.” Dalinar sighed, but sat. Ch 28: Quote “I’m stepping down as soon as I can make the necessary arrangements. It will be a few days at most.” Speaking the words felt odd, as if saying them made his decision real. Navani looked pained. “Oh, Dalinar,” she whispered. “This is a terrible mistake.” “It is mine to make. And I must repeat my request. I have many things to think about, Navani, and I can’t deal with you right now.” He pointed at the doorway. Navani rolled her eyes, but left as requested. Ch 52: Quote It grated on him. “I thank you for your scribing and for your willingness to keep this quiet,” he said, opening his eyes. “But I really must ask you to leave now, Navani.” “Oh, Dalinar,” she said softly. She was close enough that he could smell her perfume. Stormfather, but she was beautiful. Seeing her brought to his mind thoughts of days long past, when he’d desired her so strongly that he’d nearly grown to hate Gavilar for winning her affection. “Can’t you just relax,” she asked him, “just for a little while?” Ch 58: Quote “Then we’ll retreat,” Sadeas said with a sigh. “And we’ll call it a failed experiment. But at least we’ll have tried. This is how you get ahead, old friend. You try new things.” Dalinar scratched his chin in thought. “Oh, go on, Dalinar,” Elhokar said. “He took your suggestion to attack together. Try it once his way.” “Very well,” Dalinar said. “We will see how it works.” WoR: Spoiler None found OB: Spoiler CH 3: Quote “We lost the crown prince,” Sadeas said. “He’ll mount a resistance.” “That would be impressive,” Dalinar said, “considering what I did to him.” Sadeas relaxed visibly. “Oh, Dalinar. What would we do without you?” CH 4: Quote She breathed out. “The Old Magic. You said you knew both your boon and your curse.” He nodded. “Oh, Dalinar.” “People glance at me when her name comes up,” Dalinar continued, “and they give me these looks of pity. They see me keeping a stiff expression, and they assume I’m being stoic. They infer hidden pain, when really I’m just trying to keep up. It’s hard to follow a conversation where half of it keeps slipping away from your brain. Ch 19: Quote “If someone insulted my biceps, I wouldn’t attack him,” Dalinar said. “I’d refer him to a physician, because obviously something is wrong with his eyes.” Navani laughed, a musical sound. “Oh, Dalinar,” Sadeas said. “I don’t think there’s another person on Roshar who could have said that with a straight face.” Ch 36: Quote “You spared the child.” “I … He could barely lift the Blade. I gave him to his mother, and told her to hide him.” “Oh, Dalinar.” She pulled him close. He felt a swelling of pride. Ridiculous, of course. Ch 57: Quote “Yes. I’ll kill the other one too, eventually. She’s hidden herself somewhere, and I’m too … shackled.” “You’re a monster.” “Oh, Dalinar. This from you of all people? Tell me you’ve never found yourself in conflict with someone you respect. Tell me you’ve never killed a man because you had to, even if—in a better world—he shouldn’t deserve it?” Dalinar bit back a retort. Yes, he’d done that. Too many times. Ch 107: Quote “Will it be enough?” Malata asked. “That old axehound is tough.” “It will be enough. Dalinar would be the first to tell you that when your opponent is getting back up, you must act quickly to crush his knees. Then he will bow, and present to you his skull.” Oh, Dalinar. You poor, poor man. Ch 118: Quote “Let me have the pain, Dalinar,” Odium said. “Give it to me, and never feel guilty again.” “No.” Dalinar hugged The Way of Kings close. “No. I can’t.” “Oh, Dalinar. What does she say?” No … “Have you forgotten? Here, let me help.” <snip> “Please…” Dalinar whispered in Thaylen City. “Don’t make me live it again.” “Oh, Dalinar,” Odium said. “You will live it again and again until you let go. You can’t carry this burden. Please, give it to me. I drove you to do this. It wasn’t your fault.” Hope that helps Edited January 12 by Treamayne SPAGF 1
