Like Edge said, player characters don't usually die (except for Scorch so far) but everyone has been good about avoiding plot armor. We have some very strong writers here, and they're all good at realistic consequences. (I take the death thing back: both Voidgaze and Lightwards have died, but they got better.)

Mostly better, in Lightwards' case. And I wonder if we've already seen Panda's first POV post... :P

But yeah, Seonid's summary was as hilarious as it was informative. :D

The city of The Dalles is currently where new players are being encouraged to start off. It's a highly militarized city ruled by a normal human who managed to seize control. Epics entering the city are given the choice between working for the mayor, leaving, or dying; however, those uninterested in working for The Dalles City Guard may find employment in the superpowered crime ring running rampant in the city, headed by the enormously powerful Quicksilver.

I hope that isn't too much information--I tried my best to keep it simple. You'll learn the lore best by immersion--I barely knew who anyone was when I joined, but now I can rattle off details about practically any character. :)

To be fair, I predict the Dalles to collaps with the arrival of Paladin at the latest, the place can´t take powerful Epics and expect to keep standing. Until then, kudos for keeping up that long.

Do you? Tell me the details about Strongsteel.

Sparks! I go to sleep for 8 hours and everything happens. :P

Yup,consequenzes like slowly being corrupted... (Not only did Voidgaze die, she died thrice thus far and just shakes it of.)

I´m still marveling at the entire paragraph talking about Nighthound being a complete Slontz.

Wait.

How do you ponify a panda?

Oh well. I'm sure we'll figure something out. :P

A zebra maybe?

I'm sure it can be done... after all, humans are no more related to ponies than pandas are. If a human can be compressed into an equine form, then anything can. :P

Uh... I don't know all the details about him. But he's capable of fortifying structures and had a slight ship with Panacea.

You could write an entire novel about how awful Nighthound is.

I suddenly want to rewrite the lyrics to "Shake It Off" to make it fit Voidgaze. :P

Yes but who would want to read such a nightmare inducing book? :P

Nighthound. Nighthound would read that book. He would probably read it out loud to whoever happened to be standing nearby, making sure his inflection was especially creepy for the ladies. :o

And thus through the power of science and creepiness, it was discovered that a specific sound frequency modeled after Nighthound's voice was capable of generating a primordial "ick" response in any female brain.

Male brains are immediately placed into hyper-defensive mode, believed to be a residual instinct for defending the tribe against a predatory threat. The exception to this is the unique brain of Steven Lawrence, who bawled for forty-seven consecutive minutes when forced to listen to a Nighthound recording.

This unique response on Lawrence's part has intrigued scientists since it occurred. Some postulate it represents a manifestation of latent nurturing instincts, though this hypothesis does nothing to explain Mommy's repeated demands for a loaded AK-47 upon hearing Nighthound's voice. Many scientists believe that Lawrence's reaction makes him an exception to the "survival of the fittest" theory, as they are unable to explain how an Epic who exhibited such a reaction to a mere recording has lived this long.

Lawrence's relationship with Megan Pierce is a matter of intense scientific scrutiny, as the possibility of Lawrence somehow passing on his genetics would be seen as the permanent rebuttal of Darwin's theory.

mail-me, I have two ideas for Reader quotes to use in his Epic file:

"Unfortunately for you, you came to the Dalles, and the Dalles is my territory. Everything you know belongs to me. And everything I own belongs to Koschei the Deathless."

Or my personal favored choice:

"Let's have a chat."

However, many scientists prefer to abolish Darwin´s theory, when refering to Epics, as this gives them the chance to deny the possibility of mating rituals carried out by the subjects classified as Jägers. The few researchers... curious enough to study this matter have fallen victim to bouts of insanity and were not capable to convey usable data.

I vote for number two.

Almost there Twi.

Upon the files of these….unique areas of scientific research is scrawled, in red pen, a rather unscientific phrase: "There are some things man is not meant to know."

Almost where?

Excellent!

I wonder what kind of notes he would put in a Voidgaze file. Although, one for Lucentia would probably be more useful. (Talking about her, since I put her into Lightwards accessories I kind of want to give her glasses.)

Tia: David, there´s something I´ve been wanting to ask you for a while now. Why do your put ponies into all your Epic profiles?

Notes: Those who have met Voidgaze have described the experience as "surprisingly pleasant." I tend to think she threatened them into saying that, to more easily lure victims to her clutches.

David: I don't know. It just feels right, I guess.

Cody: You're weird.

Tia: Said the Southern Scotsman.

Oh, right. I'm still not sure how I feel about this.

Edit: I am a fan of Lucentia's glasses. Though I think she'd wear gold or silver frames, instead of brown ones.

Steelheart tells us that David's father wore a comic book t-shirt on that fateful day in the bank.

That wasn't entirely accurate.

I confess I teared up during that scene. The comic book fan, murdered by the very man he thought a hero—that was enough to send Steelheart into Complete Monster territory.

But murdering a brony, who only wanted to make Chicago 20% cooler and thought Steelheart was the man for the job? If there is something beyond Complete Monster, that is where Steelheart is.

And prejeduces like this are why Voidgaze had to go without friends for so long. Shame on you, David, what was that about good Epics you started talking about?

You could be happy for Kobod. Soon he won´t be the only heretic around.

silver frames sound right, I´ll look into that.

That would explain his unwavering belief in good Epics.

He´s somewhere slightly below Nighthound I would say.

I'm with you all the way. Steelheart had one of the most emotionally affecting prologues I've ever seen.

It horrifically turned the old rise-of-heroes comic book opening on its head with the cruelest Kick the Dog moment I've read in a while.

Yay heresy? :unsure::P

Quota: an evil Soother whose life ambition is making others miserable. He likes pushing others to suicidal depression while drinking lattes.

If there's one thing Brandon Sanderson is good at, it's subverting tropes. You should read Warbreaker. I genuinely sat for a few minutes in silence after reading it, overwhelmed by how many surprises and subverted audience expectations I'd just experienced.

I wonder what would happen if forum policy mandated that anyone who passed Brandon Sanderson in rep had to write an equal number of epic fantasy novels. :P

That sounds about right. :P

There are so many Sanderson books I want to read, and I will when I have more time. Warbreaker is near the top of the list.

I'm working on it! :P I have my WIP, which I plan to resume soon and title at some point, and an idea for another world that I will flesh out once I finish my WIP and I feel like my writing skills are a bit better.

You pass this one. ;)

Warbreaker, absolutely awesome and fabulous, also it´s for free on Brandons website, so no one has an excuse not to read it. I would gush about how awesome it is but as Kobold said, high spoiler potential.

You would be very bussy writing Epic fantasy novels instead of either the next Lightwards or Backtrack segment? What would you write such a mandatory book about? (I have a couple of ideas should someone force me, including my own Shardworld design... although First of the Sun is kinda similar in the idea of an island world... that´s more or less where the similarities end, tough. No idea why I brought this up.)
