As they neared the Gate, Gerith knew.

He knew that he couldn’t run.

He just couldn’t.

There were six other “heretics” with him, being led by the Serpent King’s emissary—who wore an imposing, pearly white cloak over heavy armor. When they arrived at the gate, the emissary turned back, regarding the group.

“You have been branded… heretics. To escape this brand, you must either die… or you must complete the Holy Pilgrimage. You must find the path that you forsook.” He raised a hand, and the heavy doors of the Gate began to open. “You must travel to Dragon’s rest, straight north from the Gate, through the Blighted Lands.”

He turned. “You may run. Many, in fact, choose this. We will not stop you. But you will still have the brand, and you will no longer have your life.”

Gerith shivered, looking down. He didn’t have a life anyways. Not since the plague had hit his town.

”Your pilgrimage begins… now.”

Mystic

Name: Cilix (SAI-lix)

Pronouns: he/him

Description (made a quick sketch lol): Cilix has messy dark brown hair and a splash of freckles dotting his face, whose complexion is fair. He stands at about 5’6” (about 167 cm). Something people usually first notice about him is his right eye is a light brown––appearing as though gold in the light––while the left is a crystal blue; many call his gaze strangely beautiful and entrancing. He wears a lightweight, long sleeved tan collared shirt with a dark vest, his trousers and boots sporting the same color. If he were to roll up his sleeves, it would show scar lines all over both his forearms.

Personality: Pretty upbeat, all things considered. He tries to have an optimistic view of the world and tries to laugh as much as he can.

Heresy & Pilgrimage: Cilix has been accused and condemned by his home village of the murder of one of his close friends, though Cilix claims to have been an accident. As a result from this, the village––even his own family––shunned and banned him. As he left the village, a voice in his head promised him full redemption if he went on this pilgrimage. Although a bit skeptical, Cilix’s want to be back home and to the life he had before overcomes the skepticism and he agrees to go.

Is it a physical brand? Or a spiritual one?

Gerith looked around, frowning. “Do we just… go, now?” He coughed, but turned to the rest of the heretics.

The Serpent King’s Emissary had already turned away, leaving them.

Well, he would have been marked a heretic for his crime

Gerith nodded, stepping through the Gate and into the Blight.

Where he heard her voice so much louder. The others could see him reacting, but could not hear her.

Your character is not branded.

Semwyn looked around at the others, wondering how he had wound up in the midst of a group of heretics. Still, he supposed he had no choice but to continue; he knew what he had been promised. He stepped through the Gate.

He slumped, looking back. “It’s safe. Just… don’t touch the Blight.”

Indeed, the Blight spread through the land, twisting trees to unnatural shapes. A green ooze spread across the land.

I have to think of three powers

Semwyn.

You have taken the first step. Unbranded, unblemished, you blaze this path.

The route ahead is dangerous. The Blight is performing its purpose… a dark one.

Are you certain this is what you wish?

Simula was talking to someone, and had a strange glint in his eye.

However, it looked like he was talking to air.

"Let's go through the Gate!" Simula declared, then stepped through.

"Yes. This is what I wish." Semwyn straightened and pulled his shoulders back, mentally bracing himself for what he suspected would lay ahead.

😭 your sig just reminded me that I haven't had time to read your stuff yet. I'll try to read through the recent ones sometime in the next few days if I can get college apps done

Then I would grant you Power. Choose. Dominance over souls, Mastery over your own. Or, you may have the power of Instinct, feeling the flow of souls.

Quote

Dominance: Puppeteer

Choose one Enemy. Gain control of this enemy for the rest of the scenario. Shielded minds resist.

Self-Mastery: Potent Soul

Your soul becomes stronger, and you can sustain substantially more attacks before falling.

Instinct: Flow of Energy

You tap into the energy around you, and may use it to manipulate your surroundings. You gain the ability to drain energy from those around you, healing yourself or others in the process. You are not able to fully drain energy, and you can only drain so much at a time. If you want details about the limits of this, PM.

He felt a surge of power within him, and his sight flashed green for a moment. As it cleared, he found that he was  able to feel the life energy of his surroundings.

Just read the intro. These peoples are getting powers when they pass through the Gate mentioned in the intro.

@Ookla the Rubber Duck

Rella.

You have been wronged. The whims of nature have been pinned to be your own, and the ailment of your companion has caused you much pain. I offer you my condolences.

The path ahead is difficult. I have power to offer you, if you wish it.

I can offer you… three power. A Dominance, to avert the blame of others. Self-Mastery, to avoid the malice of others. And Instinct, to spread the pain of this blame.

Quote

Dominance: Anathema’s Mark

Choose an enemy to Mark. The enemy is becomes the target for all other enemies within a short range.

Self-Mastery: Shadow of the Dark Fey

Choose up to three enemies. They ignore you completely for the rest of combat, except if you are the only hero not fallen.

Instinct: Howl of Anguish

Let out a painful howl, dealing significant damage to the last three enemies that attacked you.
