Question on signatures

Ok so the signatures are like only supposed to be 3 lines but like.. based on which device or thread?
cause on some threads mine is 3 lines. Some its 4 but im on an iPad. So on a computer wouldn’t it be like 3 or 2 since the screen is larger and can hold more?? 

And on my smol little tablet wouldn’t it be more lines then on my iPad?

or am i just being a tired weirdo?

Well phones don’t have sigs but otherwise, I have been wondering this exact question?

Yeah. Cause ive got a little tablet thats smaller then my iPad that I occasionally use. 

Side note a small visual so you can see what im talking about if you dont understand the difference im speaking of.

so which is the perimeter to use to judge how long your sig is???

i honestly have no idea. I did link a post to my signature for a while, and that made it four lines, even on my massive PC. I don't think its an actual limit, my guess is just that the admins would tell you to shorten it.

Dumb question, how do I even set my signature? I looked through the whole account settings page and didn't see anything.

 

EDIT: Nevermind, I just missed it. I had been checking edit profile, not full account settings apparently.

It's based on window size. 3 Lines.... isn't a real parameter. I don't think it's for like, softwhere issues, just for readability.

Please see: Important Reminder about Signatures

 - Yes, defined by a standard Computer resolution width, and it may reflow longer in reduced width.
You can even test this on a computer, since the site uses adaptive CSS, so if you make your browser window narrow enough, the site will auto-change to Mobile display settings.

This is all measured on desktop on the max width the site can be. Yes, this can be hard to determine. I don't have a better metric for you, nor a technological way with the system to enforce it. I can enforce like... number of paragraphs, but that's kind of irrelevant if you have one paragraph with tons of characters on it.

I might recommend people just make shorter sigs in general. You don't have to, of course, but brevity is the soul of wit, you know, but you don't have to be a gas and expand to fill the space  More extensive information/listicles might be better on About Me.
