Ardent Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 During Nomad's fight with the Cinder King, Scadrian bracers were put on him. I presume these are some form of unsealed metalminds that force you to store or tap something. He became really cold and kind of stunned when one was put on his wrist, and this could be a metalmind that stores all of your heat. He also got one on his ankle that made him heavy and sluggish, maybe a full ironmind that forces you to tap weight but doesn't give you the muscle mass to compensate. 1) If this is true, would it be possible to create a metalmind that forces you to store your connection? I am guessing it would be. Spoiler I don't really think that this is a spoiler, but I am just playing it safe. 2) If you put an unsealed metalmind on a Radiant that forces them to store their connection, you could do something to their spren bond. Could you use the bracer afterwards to effectively steal a Radiant's bond? (Assuming a Radiant bond is paused when storing connection.) This might lead to some identity contamination issues. We know that storing connection does affect the Nahel bond in some way. Relevant WoB Questioner If a Knight Radiant were to store Connection and Identity into the appropriate metalminds on a heavy basis, would it affect their spren bond, and how? Brandon Sanderson Oh, right. Yes, but I won't answer the how, but it definitely has an effect. Orem signing (March 10, 2018) 1

Brandon Sanderson Oh, right. Yes, but I won't answer the how, but it definitely has an effect. We don't know that they are Unsealed Metalminds - as they do not behave like Unsealed Metalminds we do know about. But, they are likely a derived Fabrial based on Unsealed Metalminds. That said, It is unlikely that they could be used to Steal a Radiant Bond, because it is not only about Connection - it's about Volition and Oaths. Spren always have a choice. WoBs (it's about Hemalurgy, but should apply the same): Spoiler Quote Questioner Can Hemalurgy be used to steal [Surgebinding]? Brandon Sanderson Yes, technically, but since there are spren involved it's not gonna work the same way. It is possible but not gonna be nearly as effective, how about that? Basically since the spren can break the bond in certain instances, you can get it and then immediately lose it. DragonCon 2019 (Sept. 1, 2019) Quote Aradanftw If you were to use Hemalurgy on a Surgebinder, would it steal the Surge or the actual spren bond? Brandon Sanderson It's going to steal the spren bond, but you've got to remember the spren has power over that bond. So what you're doing is (1) incredibly evil, even more evil, but (2) you may not end up with what you want, because that spren has free will in most cases. You may go through all this trouble and then they may break the bond, and you would be left without it. So you would need something else to force them to be unable to break the bond, which would be even more evil, but it is possible in Hemalurgy. Starsight Release Party (Nov. 26, 2019) Hope that helps
