"No. Most alleyways have overhangs. You should be fine if you stay off the main roads."

"Have you not tried an Ame?"

She grimaced subtly and rose. "I'll take you outside, but I don't want to stay outside too long. It wouldn't be good for either of us to catch cold."

Finally - FINALLY - the messenger appeared on the docks.

Lance spotted him right away, what with his strange clothing. Lance waved the messenger over.

Outwardly, she thanked the staff and left. Inwardly, she groaned. She had to walk to the showplace tomorrow, and if it rained she was doomed. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. She'd have to loan one or something, mybe form a coworker. She rushed back to the restaurant, Thay's Cafe.

"Good, you're back just in time."

He approached.

"Where have you been? We have to go, now."

Lance untied the boat from the mooring and the wind blew it quickly out of the dock.

Lance stepped up to the wheel.

He did not answer.

Lance eyed the messenger, but decided to leave it. He looked out over the wide river, the smell of salt in the air and a cool sea breeze flowing around. Other boats sailed around, fishing and delivering goods. He loved the water.

Again, she put on a happy face. Just three more hours then you can get home and ask Riri for her umbrella. Assuming it isn't broken. "Alright..." She put on her chef's apron and prepared to cook. "What's the order?"

"Oh, interesting. Issues with your magic?"

"Maybe... It's slippery. Like trying to grab control from another mage." He sighs and rubs his head. "Something is wrong. I just don't know what."

Im just gonna time skip because I don't want to go "Here's some bread! What's the next order?" For three hours' worth of in-RP time.

Finally. I'm home free. She stepped out of Thay's Cafe and began walking back home. Thankfully it didn't rain tonight, but she could only hope it would be sunny tomorrow as well. Just a couple drops of rain could ruin her banjo.

Soon, she arrived home and jingled the bell. "Riri! You in there?" She called through the door.

Ayrton sat on the crumbling bed where his son was asleep, brushing a lock of hair out of his child's face. His heart ached—this boy would never know what it was like to run, to tumble, to play... he bit his lip. Ayrton gently placed the back of his hand on the child's forehead. It was hot. Too hot. The palsy was bad enough, but the fever...

His wife walked in. "How is he doing?"

"Not good..." Ayrton replied. "And we haven't had business recently. We can't afford any more medicine." He sighed, rubbing his temples. "We need someone, anyone, to come in... or we might not even be able to put food on the table."
