Alright, here we go:

Generic fantasy/Folktale stuff. Wizards in towers. Being turned to animals. Witches in woods. Any stereotypical folktale type thing you can think of, all in the same world.

This is entirely open. You can show up anywhere, do (mostly) anything. Interact, make conflict, find true love (murder your true love), whatever you want!

Elan, the Great Wizard, walked through the babbling forest, wads of cotton stuffed into his ears. His beard waved majestically in the wind. In his hand he held an ancient tome, a list of ingredients for spells listed on the front. He could hear the faint whispers of the trees, but their seductive voices were muffled to a safe level by the cotton.

Lighting the way with his staff, he continued along a run-down path, dry leaves crunching under his feet. Will-o'-the-wisps burst far off in the forest. The wood was shadowed by interlacing, leafless branches.

He glanced at his book again. Not much farther. Not... much... farther...

Oh God should I play a witch or a monster hunter?

Vailla watches the man walk through the forest, perched upon a high branch. Her eyes pierce the dark as easily as day.

Vailla takes a deep breath, ignoring the smells of the woods. She wrinkles her nose-Cinnamon. Cinnamon means high magic, and he reeks of it. What is a wizard doing in the forest?
Vailla climbs down the tree, graceful as a cat. She rolls as she hits the ground, not a single leaf crunching as she walks.

The Nymphs will not hinder her. Not after what she did.

Callum the hunter turns at the sound of walking. Crouching unseen in the underbrush, he watched this new traveler pass through his woods, ears stuffed against the wisdom of the trees.

I mean we already have a wizard but you could play anything really

Dragon, princess, Prince, horse, goblin, anything. Including another wizard.

Elan could feel his staff vibrating. Something living was nearby, but he couldn't be sure what. He kept on his walk. It was dangerous to stop without purpose in the Babbling Woods. The wisps, the nymphs, the trees—very few things worked for one's good here.

The wizard looked around on his side. He thought he saw something in the underbrush. A pair of eyes, reflecting bursts of light from the will-o'-the wisps. Not a bother, and not a danger. At least, not yet...

He moved his eyes forwards, pretending not to have seen anything as he delved deeper into the woods, closer and closer to its heart.

Anything, you say?

A different small red light pulses in the leaves of a tree nearby, perhaps hiding from something?

All of a sudden the light turns blue. And then yellow?

Within bounds but yeah anything

The Great Wizard continued forwards, knowing that something was following. He glanced at his tome one last time, closed it, and tucked it away in his cloak, putting both hands on his staff. He scratched a rune on the ground beneath his feet using the end of his staff, and his ears popped as the whispers of the trees went quiet. He gingerly removed the cotton from his ears and turned around to face what was behind him.

"Wizard. What are you seeking?" Veilla asks, stepping from the brush. "There are many here that do not like your kind."

He can barely see a light slowly fading into a tree. The light was a bright lemony yellow.

“I seek a rare plant found at the heart of this forest.” The wizard answered. “Why do you follow me.”

The wizard knew the eyes were still following him. The person he had just met was not their owner.

Still, he waited.

As you look, the light made a "eep!" sound before fading into it further. It seemed to be hiding. Its hiding skills were very terrible.

I mean, there's already a lot of folktale canons that clash, I don't see why we can't add another!
Just don't let it take everything over and you'll be fine

A young dragon flies out of the forest nearby

The mage breaker walked through the forest looking for something, his gleaming silver armour reflected the bands of light that passed through the trees. At his side a beautiful gold and red enameled sword with a rose at the end of the pommel. Behind him a long red and white cloak with a large silver rose on it billowed in the soft breeze.
