She nodded and calmed her breathing down. With her life on the line if January found her.....

Khoi smiles and rises to his feet, walking slowly towards them. He steps around puddles and chairs alike.

August gently patted her hand, but seemed distracted. He was staring off into the distance, not really looking at anything but deep in thought.

At the sound of the commotion, a tall woman in black robes appeared from a side door and strode right up to the fat merchant. She had a stern face and her hair was greying at the temples.

"What on earth is the meaning of this?" She asked with the same tone a parent would scold a child. "I will not tolerate such behavior here, the mistress was very clear." This woman--the host probably--hadn't heard the merchant's comment about knowing the place's owner. She didn't seem to recognize him either, and stared down at him with mild disdain.

At the commotion June turned his head sharply, his anxiety spiking. If they searched the place and discovered more wanted individuals then they came to find ...

August stayed in his seat, glancing at the new group but not giving it much attention. "They're not looking for us. I've never seen that man before, so he won't recognize us." He said calmly.

June settled back in his chair, trying to appear as calm as the older man. "Right, but if things escalate, we should move rooms."

August nodded.

The merchant huffed, but looked somewhat intimidated by her stature.

"Why, I have a paper right here authorizing my guards' search of this place for the miscreant Eyre." He tried to wave it in her face, but he was a little too short. The guards stopped rummaging around the room to face the host respectfully.

Rye, or Eyre supposedly, was no where to be seen or heard anymore. For all anyone knew, he really had vanished into smoke.

She didn't answer. Abba had taught her not to run from strangers all those years ago.

"I see." He stops "Someone in power then?"

She slightly stiffened.

"Mh. Thought so." Now that he's  closer, you can see his eyes are milky-white. He's clearly blind.

"And you?" He says, turning towards August @Mags

Kane eyed the trio, watching their reactions. “Now that’s interesting. They do have something to hide. Can I pleeeaaase confront them?”

She disguised the fear in her breathing. Her face remained blank.

"Breath,  child. I do not work for anyone."

”Hey you! It seems you three have a juicy secret! Care to share?”

You know, I usually wouldn’t push the story like this. But it’s going slow/slightly dying out!

And I had already laid the foundation.

He pulled up a stool, fingers twitching as he sat. “You see, when you say things like that, it makes it difficult to respect your secrets.”

She glared, then adjusted her scarf.

“Even if I had secrets, the answer would be no.”

“Please try to say something when you talk. It makes you sound smarter.”

He deliberated. “You’re wearing  clothing befitting lords and ladies in a tavern, those two were glaring daggers at each other not long ago, and you just look worried. And in my experience, when a noble is worried, the lowly will starve. And when a noble is angry, the lowly will die. When it’s both…”

He made a strange gesture with his fingers, like a cutting. “Usually it’s best to just stop the problem at its root.”
