If you had to guess right now, what year would you think Dragonsteel will come out?

It will be the book after Stormlight 10 is the way it is planned right now. So, add those up, we’ve got seven more Stormlights, four more Mistborn, two Elantris, and one Warbreaker. After all those, and I generally do one a year, so add all that up. So 7... 11... 12 years and then I will write it, probably, is what it looks like? 11... no 13... 14 years.

Well, you see, I live halfway across the world. I've got to like finish school at least before I can get a plane ticket to go to Dragonsteel. Most likely not before 2039 or something though.

I can't tell if you're kidding, but he was referring to the Dragonsteel series, the origin story of Hoid.

Yeah. And that WoB was 2017, so 14 years is 2031. It'll probably be released at Nexus (can't imagine it not) and that is the earliest one I have a chance of attending.

No, it won't, barring a literal miracle.

Dragonsteel is meant to be released after the Stormlight Archive is finished. Brandon won't even start writing Book 6 of the SA for something like five years, and it seems to take him 3 years to write one. He won't even start Dragonsteel for 20 years or so, if he sticks to his plans. Back in 2017, he thought (as he says in that WoB) that he could write Stormlight Archive books in one year each. He expected to have the Stormlight Archive finished by 2031, not half-done.

That's why there's laughter in the subject line here.

Yeah honestly, we have to accept that he’s either gonna farm out some Cosmere material to other company authors proactively, or it’s going to get de facto farmed out when he passes. Because I simply don’t see how he can keep his (quite aggressive) current pace and get to the Cosmere finish line.
