Why can't you take an Elantrian to the Gym

Because it's too hard to get them out of the Dor.

1. There is lore and info to be found in the Elantris Glossary (such as Gretgor and Widor) that did not make it into the final book. 
2. Same goes for the Annotations - which are a gerat read for anybody who wants to know why some decisions for the story were made the way they were made.
3. For those that only know the current version - there were significant changes for the 10th anniversary edition that can be confusing when you discuss with anybody who has only read the original release
