LeondeBowa Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 So when a shardblade kills it burns the eyes of the person, because it hits the "soul". In the end of WaT, Kaladin is found with burnt out eyes when he acends as a herald. Is this the body's natural reaction when the connection between the "soul" and the body is severed or could shard blades be doing something more than we suspected?
Hexagonal He/Him Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 It seems more likely to be the soul and body being disconnected. We are not entirely sure if cognitive shadows are the soul or a copy or some mix(I am personally of the camp that they are the soul with a bit of extra investiture, but I can see the copy argument too), so Kaladin's transformation into a herald could be seen as death in some interpretations. The burning of the eyes resembles Nightblood cutting into things and popping them into smoke. I think the smoke could be an attack in all three realms, as few things have smoke with their attacks. 2
AlmightyGir Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 I think there's an inherant Connection between Shardblades, Spren, the Spritual Realm, and the real-world band Machine Head. Brando Sando is secretly a big metalhead, change my mind. 1

Essentially, Kaladin either transformed into a Herald or he just willingly died so that a Herald copy of him could be created. There's no way to know for sure, and we also don't even know if the Beyond is an actual afterlife or just the end of existence. 2
