Better Status Updates

What are status updates? They're certainly not posts, since they dont count towards the post count, and they're not searchable at all -they simply won't come up. I can't for life of me find a way to enable notifications for status updates- without enabling notifications for every time a person I follow posts, which is FAR to many notifications for my sanity.

It would be great if they were re-worked, or at least made searchable. I got phantom pinged in one today and have no idea where it is.

Out of curiosity, how have you tried searching? Example:

Not saying it's good, as I do not use SUs and don't really know - but a quick search found SUs

Also, please keep in mind that there are many things the Admins simply cannot do. They can access the current Invision version (see bottom of any page) and whatever tools that provides for customization - but things like the "all or nothing" for alerts are an Invision setting they cannot change. You can go to the Invision Community site and make your voice heard there for changes you want them to make in the base software for a future release.

Ah. You have to search specifically for SUs. Thank you. As for the second part, I will probably do so. 

Hm. There's more SUs that mention me, I know there are; but many dont come up.

I'm not yet sure how to search for an @ mention. I used the author search to search for an SU that you wrote with that keyword. The system does not seem to "see" the name in an @ mention flag. Or, I just do not know the correct setting. You may also get some traction on just searching SUs posted "last 24hours" (with or without setting a minimun number of comments).

We are unfortunately at the behest of Invision Power Suite here, and it seems they don't have any interest in doing this. In fact, IPS 5 has removed status updates completely... Not sure what we can do about it, really. I think there are plans in the IPS converter to save the data somehow, which would certainly be a requirement. But yeah, it seemed like this was a pretty unpopular decision on the IPS forums to remove these, but they did it anyway. 

Soooo I guess enjoy them while they still exist, I suppose. 

Currently, I believe our intent is to wait as long as possible to update to IPS 5, so don't worry for the near future. But eventually IPS 4.x will be end of lifed.

Ah! Well, that sucks. I guess others agree they're a mess.

It's as good a guess as any. Hm. I suppose I'll just never know.

I imagine IPS did not anticipate the massive status update threads that happen here, expecting people to use the base forum stuff.

I'll let admin answer the other question, but status updates are mini posts that you can post directly on your profile, or another's profile. They don't exist in the actual forums, and to see them you have to go to someones profile, however you can set up a content stream that will show all of the recent ones together on one page. You can leave comments on SU's, and sometimes people comment so much that an SU is sort of like a mini, unsorted thread. A lot of people use these for life updates, or sharing random facts or jokes.

As far as I understand it, IPS 5 shouldn't reset rep. The numbers might vary a little as it will recount them, but I wouldn't worry about that.

I'm not sure if you read my post, or the post to which I had replied; but all I was doing was trying to answer the OP's questions. I don't use SUs so it doesn't really matter to me - despire being very important to many others. Perhaps your questions would be better directed at the OP(@Argenti)?

Honestly it's been 7 months, the exact question in my head has long since passed into the beyond.

Invison is frustrating sometimes, but less frustrating than watching chaos have to build the whole website. 

I fear I've never thought about any of these questions. So no.
