Alkippa Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 (edited) I'm on the final 2 books of the Cosmere, Yumi and Tress. Any suggestions on which one I should read first? Alternatively, I could listen to one while reading the other - I'll be driving and doing some other menial tasks over the weekend. If anyone has any opinions on which should be listened to vs read. IcedOutPenguin He/Him Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 Tress is my recommendation. But it doesn't matter. I recommend listening to all of your Cosmere books (for no practical reason other than convenience). 2

If anyone has any opinions on which should be listened to vs read. If you have read all the rest of the Cosmere works, then this choice comes down to personal preference. Technically, Yumi comes before Tress Chronologically (based on current known data - not officially confirmed). Tress is more of a fairy-tale inspired story with lots of random Cosmere Easter Eggs involved. Minor Spoilers: Spoiler It also involves Aethers - or, a version of them known as Aether Spores. Yumi has a few more wider-Cosmere reveals and while it has less total Easter Eggs, the Cosmere references it does have are a bit deeper. Minor Spoilers: Spoiler It uses mechanics like Awakening and Midnight Essence in different ways, showcasing how Brandon has been saying all long that some mechanics are Realmatic based and differing magic systems can arrive at the same (or similar) results. Neither one technically has spoilers for the other. Hope that helps 4 minutes ago, IcedOutPenguin said: I recommend listening to all of your Cosmere books I recommed reading all of your Cosmere books, if for no other reason than convenience (and the interior artwork, maps and other goodies that audio removes - especially Secret Project books where the artwork is integral to the story). I personally enjoyed both, however, I would suggest reading Yumi, then tress, because i personally like the idea of ending off the series with a whimsical note. Also, I would suggest listening rather than reading, as it help’s convey the characters emotions more, which is important in both books. 1
Alkippa Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I ended up listening to Yumi over the weekend and into today. I think having 2 voice actors added a lot to the story, and for the artwork I was able to pull up the pictures so I didn't have to rely on the audio descriptions. 1
