A book called A Monster Calls is really sad, but it deals with grief and working through said grief in a way that I thought was really moving

Also, you are very welcome here :). (I realize basically everyone has already welcomed you, but welcome anyway)

Thank you! For both the recommendation and the welcome.

Yes! It is thank you for hating me. Ope I misspelled . Tohru is so adorable. I also loved hatori and kureno. They both deserved better. And controversial opinion. Akito is a good character.

So, I had deliberately not listened to Thank You For Hating Me, because from the title it looked like it might be a bitter "take out my pain on someone else" song. (And I try to be careful with what I choose to dwell on in my head, because if I'm not deliberate with choosing what I think about, my thoughts go dark, and I could easily let myself turn my hurt towards other people, and I don't want to do that.)
Which was a silly thing to think, because this is Citizen Soldier we're talking about, and of course they would handle it well. I went and listened, and omg it's amazing! Adding it to my CS playlist.

And oooooh, controversial opinion!
Ok so I don't want to say too much, because I've been trying to get KnightSkye to read those and I don't want to spoil anything.
But man. Akito. Ok, well, Akito is a well-written character. A crucial piece to the story. And I like that the direction of the story is redemption and forgiveness. I like the theme that everyone's cruelty comes from their own pain. I'm not sure I could say I like him. But, well. It was well done.
And Hatori! Yes. Hatori is my second favorite character, after Kyo.
In Kureno I see a little too much of my own mistakes to like him per se. That "I want to help, so I'll keep doing the thing that makes you feel better, only to realize that was enabling you to get worse and refuse to grow - that my help actually made things worse"...yeahhh, that one hurts. That's one of my background anxieties; that I'm somehow corrupted, or twisted, or there's just something wrong with me, and that any attempts I make to help someone will somehow make things worse instead.
Been working on that one in counseling. It's done a lot of good.
...This is the point where I feel like I should apologize for being personal, but I think that's the point of this group?? So uh, yep.

Its alright. The whole point of this group is to talk to each other about everything. Like group therapy but we don't fix unless they ask to. If it helps I can relate to that to. The whole story of it is just spectacular. It was a strange start cause I'm used to stuff like my hero but it was so good. And tyfhm. That song is great. Like the message that the pain made you stronger. What do you think about the song everybody hates you?
