Understandable. I keep a knife attached to the headbored of my bed behind a pillow. I also have... probaly too many weapons/pseudo weapons around my bed. A sword. Two well made training swords. A bow. Really helps me sleep.

Also, as a side note, a hammer works really well for self defence, and is cheap, if anyone else likes having the reassurence of weaponry at their disposal.
