They are separate accounts (and accounts on Arcanum are separate from both)

and when editing, is the "summary" box a summary of the changes you make that doesn't show up on the actual page?

Yes, the edit summary doesn't show up on the actual page. It will show up in places like the page history and the list of recent edits, to help other editors understand what you're changing.
