I don't actually know how to create a signature

So, I haven't been on the shard that long, but I've played around in my account settings, and is my signature something I can't see on my own posts? Is it the about me field? I see lots of other people's signatures and I don't quite know how to get one

It's a field you can fill in, in the Account Settings of your Profile.  In the browser interface you click on your name in the upper right, click on profile, and then you should see an Account Settings button at the top of the profile banner image (a little below the Search Bar).

^ here you can see the text box where you enter what you want it to say

I hope that helps clear some confusion! I had a hard time finding it when I first go here as well.

Also note that you need to click the toggle to view signatures (easy to miss). Please see below:
