Lhyllianna they/them Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) I've been making something of a timeline based on the dates of the Death Rattles. This will require some existing knowledge of the Rosharan calendar, please look that up first if you're curious. The first Death Rattle we're given in Way of Kings, dated Shashahes 1171, tells us that, Quote "It is but a thousand days and the Everstorm comes." Rosharan years are 500 days long, so the Everstorm is 2 years away. Now. My problem is whether or not this statement is a foretelling of the day when the Everstorm is 1000 days off, or if Shashahes 1173 is the date of the Everstorm. This has caused me an amount of grief, because my original interpretation of the Death Rattle was the latter. The reason for that grief is that if we assume the latter is true and align events in WoK and WoR to the Death Rattle dates, Adolin's duel with Elit, which is scheduled Quote "seven days, on Chachel" from the challenge, which is given 38 days before the (the day after the glyphs, Quote "Thirty-eight days. The end of all nations." appear in Dalinar's chambers); it must be given on Vevel [edit: Palahel*] or Jesel for the duel to occur on Chachel (depending on whether we count from Jesel or including Jesel), but is actually given on a Chachel (if we assume that Shashahes occurs on Jesel; it would make sense that it does). I am doing a re-read and my memory is like soup these days so while I'm confident the glyph countdowns refer to the Everstorm, I may have misattributed them. I do vaguely remember something about the Everstorm starting in early 1174 or later in 1173, so Shashahes, being in the sixth month, is possibly not the actual date. I made a whole spreadsheet of this; I know someone else already did and they went way more in-depth than I did, but figuring out certain little details is fun for me - until it goes awry, as it seems to have done. Please let me know your thoughts on this. I have read up to and including Rhythm of War, and both novellas (Edgedancer and Dawnshard), but none of the Wind and Truth preview chapters and don't want spoilers for them, so please be mindful of that as relevant to any reply. I'll likely edit this to update with context and the like later, I'm a little tired at the moment and that can mean I omit important details. Edited November 24, 2024 by Lhyllianna SPAG, correction

Hope that helps Edited @Lhyllianna Thank you! That helps a lot! I was just shy of WoR Part I's end when I wrote the post, and then discovered that the exact date of the Everstorm is given very late in Part I (Part Three, end of chapter 50), during a conversation between Navani, Dalinar and Adolin; Spoiler 'Thirty-two days?' Navani asked. 'That will be the middle of the Weeping. Thirty-two days won't even be the exact end of the year, but two days ahead of it. I can't fathom the significance.' So if I'd had maybe 5 pages more patience, I'd have found the answer easily! 1
