HELLO invisible ghost friends!!

I need help. I am writing a story for a school contest, a spooky story about a ten year old girl.

Any ideas of where to take this??

help greatly appreciated.

If it had been a dark and stormy night it would have fit the setting quite well, however it was not a dark and stormy night. That is the weather for you. Somehow every mad scientist, haunted house, serial killer, or any other horror related story has had the convenience of a dark and stormy night. But for every world renowned book or film there are dozens of stories such as this where the protagonist faced a darkless, stormless, night. Typically tales such as this end up being the most true.

So it was, that Melanie strolled through the darkless, stormless, night, with a pleasant air about herself. But do not, dear reader, let the agreeable weather (slightly chilly, around 45-50° with mist and a drizzle of rain) fool you. Dark things are afoot, they always are, that's the point, for evil never rests. It waits, bideing it’s time until the right moment to pounce.

That pounce was coming, unbeknownst to Melanie.

Melanie was a small girl of about 10 years of age with the pride and confidence that comes when one reaches double digits. She kept her dark hair cropped short like a boys, her gray sweaters loose, and her bright green shoes laced tightly.

btw, there is a 1,000 word limit. (high schools, yk?)

Depends on where you want this story to go. If you want classic werewolves and witches, that's one thing, or perhaps something similar to scream, that's another. What type of story do you want this to be? If I have information like that, I'd be able to help you with much great... well, help.

Okok most of my help will be invalidated due to the 1000 word limit (Why, school contests?), but here is what is left after the desecration of my wisdom.

Perhaps a demon offers her a deal? Perhaps she gets into a petulant (what type of character do you have?) disagreement, and a demon takes advantage of this.

More if I think of it.

Or a demon is following her around, possessing people around her. (her parents, the bus driver, her neighbor) idk

What is this

*reads*

What if she senses something is off as she's traveling home in the dark

And the world slowly degrades around her until she's the only thing left

Like things just start disappearing without her noticing and then she sees this shadow (which is the demon but it isn't stated outright) that starts overtaking the entire scene until she's completely alone

If there were other people? There could be a lot of screaming while she's perfectly calm; that'd be spooky

*gasp* WHAT IF SHE IS THE DEMON IN THIS SCENARIO?!?! CAUSING MAYHEM WHEREVER SHE GOES

'Kay have fun with my wacky-stacky idea 😁

How about something like this but the people are going insane but she's listening to music on headphones so she doesn't really hear much (not sure if that makes sense..)

So the music blocks out everything bad happening to the other people?

uh kinda, like really loud rock music.

yeah, and she's probably like really thinking about something else and focusing on it, zoning other things out.
