It’s likely a substance intrinsic to your species; we may know of it non-biologically.” Adtae hesitated. When my people were made, along with my world, we were each given a charge of Andarik to give us life. And then, no person died. But then… the sickness hit. It tore through our souls, made us lose Andarik, leak it into what was previously the Overflow. And so, a few of use were blessed. Not me, though. They were blessed to be a well of Andarik, the energy spilling out to others and sustaining them. But then… I died. I was exiled for thievery. And without the presence of the Andarik, I died. This started wars, and soon, all of the Blessed died out. They were murdered, and their wells of Andarik spilled out into the Overflow. Sometimes their souls claimed their power, sometimes others did. But it was irrelevant. For the power did not discriminate, and with this great charge of power, the Demons, and the Angels, were born. Each had near infinite access to Andarik, but none of them had the special circumstances that surrounded my death. So I, though with less Andarik, was able to keep them in check. I cannot banish them, but I can block them, for a time. Prevent them from accessing their powers. I have this in place for many of them, but it requires my constant attention. He paused. That didn’t answer your question, did it? I cannot really describe it very well.

You say you were made?” She turns to a technician. “Do we have a tesla coil around somewhere?”

Quote Yeah, pretty much. It builds up a charge around it, which then grounds through the air when it gets too much. The technician comes back with a small table, then sets it up and places a device on it. There’s a base with a cord and two metal spires, on with a ball on the end. “I would not get too near, unless you’re certain this is Andarik.” Dr. Warren cautions. “The light this device makes is rather dangerous.” She turns it on, and a small arc of electricity snaps between the two spires with a buzz, changing shape rapidly.

Adtae steps towards it, heedless of the danger. One of the arcs hits him, but it appears that was coincidence - it isn’t affected at all by him, and just passes through him.

Dr. Warren is shocked (no pun intended). “You said you were incorporeal, but if you’re unaffected by electromagnetism, what are you made of?”

Condensed into a hollow, broken shell. As the pure Andarik flows through this shell, I can grab some of it. Force it to my will. He extended a hand, and a shadowy dagger appeared in it, next to his shadow writing.

He explains, though, that it must be because this world does not have the Andarik. The Andarik does not break, and seems to overlap slightly with everything it touches. When it gets near Adtae, that overlap stops.

Then Dr. Warren thinks about it too much and is bewildered again. She also makes Adtae create a paper-thing shadow, then tries to use the overlap to pass it through things, and attempts to bend it.

A technician does measurements on the overlap as Dr. Warren continues talking to Adtae. She’s still unable to quite grasp how the powers work (because they defy the laws of physics), so she’s mainly asking about what they can do. “Have you ever seen your shadows shatter? They seem unbreakable.”
