Lighteyed Lieutenant he/him Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Ok, I may have just missed this in my read-throughs, but what kind of pants do bridgemen wear?

Whatever they came with, or buy from their (meager) pay. The Bridge Crews only supply vests and sandles (sometimes). However, based on this picture, it seems some sort of simple half-length breaches were common.
+Lewis Nethur He/Him Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 I really want to say that they, and dark-eyed slaves in general, are described as wearing knee-length tan/brown cloth shorts, but I'm struggling to find a citation, soooo...I might just be remembering artist interpretations of the situation over reality. They come by it honestly though I think. Roshar has extremely developed climate control on a planetary level, they basically don't have seasons and the concept of dressing-for-the-weather basically doesn't exist aside from staying sheltered during highstorms. This means that fabric and cloth are overwhelmingly for appearances rather than function. This means, slaves would be clothed in the minimum amount of fabric or leather required to keep them comfortably and modestly contained without hampering their mobility. So like, best guess...probably undyed (beige) sleeveless shirts and mid-length shorts with a small number of large pockets. 1

Found some descriptions in WoK: Spoiler Ch 6: Quote None of the men sitting around the barracks so much as glanced at them. They wore leather vests and simple trousers, some with dirty laced shirts, others bare-chested. The grim, sorry lot weren’t much better than the slaves, though they did look to be in slightly better physical condition. Ch 11: Quote “Leave the sandals and vest,” Gaz said. “I don’t want to have to send someone down to fetch them.” Kaladin pulled the leather vest over his head and dropped it to the ground with a splash, then left the sandals in a puddle. That left him in a dirty shirt and stiff brown trousers, both taken off a dead man. Ch 14: Quote The shocked bridgemen filed out into the light, blinking. Most stood bare-backed to the sunlight, wearing only knee-length trousers. Moash climbed to his feet, rubbing his stomach and glaring at Kaladin. Ch 35: Quote Was that a person? Kaladin’s skin was sliced in a hundred places, dribbles of blood mixing with rainwater running down the side of the building. The lad’s body still hung by the ankles. His shirt had been ripped off; his bridgeman trousers were ragged. Ironically, his face was cleaner now than when they’d left him, washed by the storm. Ch 40: Quote The men walked up to Kaladin, silent in their leather vests. They kept their distance, hesitant, as if he were fragile. Or holy. Kaladin was bare-chested, his nearly healed wounds exposed, and wore only his knee-length bridgeman’s trousers. Hope that helps 1
