“Well then *bleeep* you *bleeping* *bleeeeeeepers*”

Berin gasped as he was let down. He awkwardly swam to one of the remaining pieces of his boat, and looked around while tearing the extra shirt cloth and wrapping it round his arm.

Pain

Was it gone?

Watch yourself. Your life is putty in our hands. You are disposable. If you want more, prove you deserve it.”

“Fine. I’ll play your games.”

Berin sat on the board, watching while waiting out the night.

You realize that you are the easiest prey, right? Every moment you are slowly getting weaker from your many wounds, and no one else is even on water, which is where it is most powerful. Also, considering how intelligent the Redspine was, the Greenspine is probably of a similar capacity for thought and is thus unlikely to let something go after evading it.

Imma prepare myself!

Berin grit his teeth. The thing might com back. He had to be ready. He pulled a thin strip of the board he was on off, using the scale to cut it and sharpen it. The result was a long,  sharp pole. He planned to use it for the eye, or another loose scale.

A row of sharp green spikes rose from the water, moving rapidly towards Berin. Verdant vines shot out from the unsubmerged parts of its back, grabbing the pole and breaking it in two (which still left Berin with a weapon, although considerably shortened).

I feel threatened. Signature move!

Berin grabbed the longer of the two pieces, then immediately jumped under the water to the right of the beast. He used his good hand to latch onto one of the vines, and crawled back up to the eye. He, this time, slid the scale under another scale higher up on the beast’s head, then rammed the stick in the head, using his legs to keep himself on the vines.

I just wanna say, the Greenspine is not letting you climb onto its back.

Hey, I’m underwater, and I was pretty close to the head anyways. No prolonged contact needed. Plus, it’s pretty much blind now. It “hears” my mind.

Berin is immediately grabbed by the vines again, unable to perform whatever he was trying to do. "IT IS DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE YOU ARE STILL ALIVE, YOUNG ONE," the Greenspine suddenly speaks. "I WILL END YOUR PAIN AND DRINK YOUR BLOOD."  The vines contort and twist around Berin.

Heeeeeyyyy! Noooo fair! Wait…. It can speak? Hehe… he… I had idea…

The person i speak of is the person who put me in the hunger games, a relatively well known noble.

I still haven’t given up on manipulating the vines.

Berin thought quickly.
“My blood, you say?”
Berin lowers his voice, so it was only audible to the creature.

”Why are you subject to these people? What have they done for your respect? Or are they controlling you? What are they doing for your loyalty?”

”You are so much bigger than them, so much more powerful. So what if they can negate your powers? You are better than them.”

He guessed that they could negate the creatures vine power, otherwise it would never be a prisoner to them.

”When I get out of here, there is someone I will kill, someone close to the game makers. If you let me go, I promise I will also kill the game maker responsible for your confinement.”

Berin said this, while struggling against the vines, pushing them away from himself.

Wait how are you speaking

You're underwater, aren't you?
