why Hrathen removed his armor in Battle of Teoras when he was alone with Sarene ?

wouldn' it make sense to keep it during fighting ?

It was heavy, it was slowing him down, it was also very recognisable. At that point they were trying to hide and sneak out. Having a bright red armor on wouldn't have helped them. Elantris ch 61:

As alder24 said, but I'll add that because Fjordell was in the process of invading Teod, he would have been challenged and hunted by not just Dilaf and his monks, but also any Teod that came across them. Basically, as long as he wore the armor in the middle of that particular war zone, everyone but Sarene would have tried to kill him on sight.
