Niamh swore.

"Hide!" she hissed to the others.

Then she went and hid in the back of the tavern.

April, wide eyed, grabbed May’s wrist and pulled her upstairs with her.

“Hey!”

”Shh!”

”Those are their horses,” January said. “Make sure they don’t come over here.”

Niamh retreated further into her hiding spot in the back, knife at the ready.

She heard Jan's hands make contact with the table. "Where are they."

"Everyone who's here is out here and visibl-"

"Don't even try. Their horses are outside."

She stayed quiet, but shifted so she could just barely see the innkeeper through some wooden slats.

The innkeeper was standing there nervously. A soldier aimed a crossbow at her neck from across the counter.

"Now, I'm only going to ask this one more time.

"Where. Are they."

Niamh still didn't move.

"Sir?" another soldier interrupted.

"What."

"If this woman is a friend of August, perhaps we could take her to the palace and use her for questioning?"

"Hm." He signaled to the one with the weapon, and he took it from her neck. She was arrested by a couple other soldiers and they took her from the tavern.

"Search the building. The horses missing from the palace are outside, so they're still here."

Niamh crept around the back, hoping the others would be able to get out safely.

She crept into a different room and climbed out the window.

Every entrance to the building was guarded, as were their horses.

On the way there, Niamh could have overheard April talking to August about the disparity of her situation - she'd pledged service to January before she'd run, and now worried that he would kill her.
