The emperor was dead, and she was leaving the palace. If it had just been that, she'd have been ecstatic.

But the truth of the matter was that there was more to it. She was still an heir, and she was still a member of the imperial family.

She didn't look at any of the guards around them, and she only looked at December's back.

Soon, they were outside, exiting through a door on the side of the hill, below the main palace. The guards led them across a crumbling stone walkway that connected with one of the small courtyards at the bottom of the hill.

Soldiers outside were rushing back they way they had come, and a few noblemen stood in packs whispering and uncertain. Carriages and horses were rattling out of the courtyard at a surprising speed.

One of Decembers guards ran ahead, and soon her own carriage pulled over across the stones. It was a simple and well built, with very little decoration.

As it pulled to a stop, December shoved April inside and then pushed in herself, closing the small door behind.

Arke flips away, his figure blurs for a second, then he's down to eye level with February and slams a fist into their gut.

Suddenly the space he'd been punching was empty, and February was behind him.

While Arke was still in the air he grabbed the back of his shirt and threw him to the ground.

"Oh . . ." He said, sounding disinterested, "You're very fast."

Arke's eyes widen as he hits the floor and rolls off the impact, hops back up, and holds a steady position, waiting for February's next move.

"I shouldn't have thrown the sword," He said mournfully as he approached, "Hand to hand is so taste-less."

February was on Arke the next second, whisking his feet out from under him with his own foot.

The shove shook a tear loose.

And everything that held value to her in the palace was left behind, except for one.

Except he wasnt. the moment before February got to him, he blurred, and he's got kunai flying into their back, while he flips away.

December rapped her knuckles on the roof of the carriage and it started moving, clattering over the stone paving a bit faster then it was likely used to.

"This'll all blow over in a few hours--at least, the initial conflict will," December said matter-of-fact-ly.

"We'll have to see who tried to claim the throne first, mostly likely it'll be March. January will push back on it but he pushes back on everything."

February turned without blinking. He caught the knife and using it's momentum, threw it straight at Arke.

"Knives are boring too . . . not flashy enough."

Just loud enough for December to hear, she muttered, "I didn't want any of this in the first place."

February grabs his foot before it makes contact, twisting him and throwing him against the ground.

"August do you have your yanyuedao with you?"

"What?" August asked from where he was still restrained by October. "Of course not, why would I have that?"

"Just asking . . . those are so fun to fight with."

She sighed, "February and I won't try for the thrown of course, we'll just go back south and try to secede our province, that is, if I can get Ary away from the fight."

February lands in a crouched, skidded across the tiles a little. He let's Arke come to him this time.

"October do you have anything good on you?"

"Nothing I'd let you touch," He replied, clearly amused by the fight.

"How truly unhelpful of you."

That's... unfortunate...

Quietly, but louder than her mutter, she said, "I think I'd trust you two more than March with the throne, honestly."

the right hook was a feint. the left fist slams into February's stomach, and is further aided by the momentum from the shoulder strike that hit Arke.

Jeko... She was glad she was looking away from December, because that name still made her wince.

February grabs his wrist as he punches him, but his fingers slip and not all of the impact is avoided.

He tightened his grip on Arke's wrist and twisted his arm behind his back.

"Woah, you got a hit in, nice one kid," October commented.

February rolled his eyes.

"Either way I'm hoping the worst of it blows over, we can of course wait in at our villa that's a few miles away." December said.

She pulled the curtain on the window back to glance out at the city. They were far way from the palace now, weaving their way though the main roads of Jouken. Traffic was lower now because of the time of day, so it went quickly.

sorry girly these are palace guards

He dodged her blow and drew his sword, realizing her under-estimated her.

He then swung his sword down on her shoulder as she turned to go.
