King Oreo He/him Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 (edited) Welcome! Here I will be looking into the world of twilight and looking at the red, orange, and green flags in the book! I will be spoiler tagging everything so it's safe for new readers My goal is to read the book then compare it with the movie and see how it changes aswell Let's begin Chapter One-three Spoiler Orange flags: Edward stares at Bella for the entirety of the lunch break. Next he goes as far away from Bella in their biology class.  Red flags: Then in Chapter three Edward blames Bella for his behavior I might get bored and draw some art too Edited April 1, 2024 by King Oreo 1
King Oreo He/him Posted April 2, 2024 Author Posted April 2, 2024 Twilight chapter 3 Spoiler Well done Edward. Straight from the abusive boyfriend's handbook Â
Thaidakar the Ghostblood he/him Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Honestly. If I ever read Twilight, this is how I'll do it. 1

King Oreo He/him Posted April 6, 2024 Author Posted April 6, 2024 Twilight chapter four Spoiler Oh boy where do we start... Basically Bella nearly gets run over by another student. Edward runs over to protect Bella and destroys the car. He then goes on to blame Bella and convince her that she saw nothing via gaslighting Say it with me now Red flags! Chapter 5-6 Spoiler Wow... Edward forcing himself upon Bella and convincing her that she can't even drive herself home because she had a panic attack about blood.  4 hours ago, AonEne said: For sure, I just don't want to say there's one right way to read a book. I'm really enjoying this book! It's not my first read through but I'm enjoying it a lot more with seeing the hints from book one that leads up to book four Â

Alright so - basically my thought is that, with the intent of keeping vampires secret, lying and gaslighting is understandable, if still not nice to be on the other side of. Better to save her life, and then try to save it again by not [New Moon spoilers] Spoiler putting her potentially in the line of fire of the Volturi, than to risk it, I think is the thought process - the motivation makes a difference to me, where if he'd been gaslighting her about something just for kicks and giggles or to feel powerful, that's textbook abuse. Or like, from a perceived danger that he can't be sure about (like driving, where she might have been fine to drive), that's getting overprotective and can definitely be a red flag. I don't think this gaslighting is a green flag, but I do think in context, it's arguably not abusive, as it's done for a legitimate reason. [later Twilight] Spoiler (If one that didn't pan out, because she was not convinced, only got more suspicious, and figured it out anyway lol.)  1

I'll make sure to keep the volturi in mind for the later analysis. 1
AonEne he/him Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 To be clear, I don't think her life being genuinely in danger excuses all possible behavior! But I think it does account for a good chunk of it. You're also making me want to reread now XD 1
